Bought a growler full from the craft beer outlet, and I,m forever glad that I did.
A nice looking beer with a beautiful contrast between the beer and it's foamy head.
The beer pours a rich burnt amber color and is very clear. Well carbonated. The foamy cap is a tanish white thats dense and mouse like. Good lacing in the foamy head's wake.
Very aromatic. Hops have a slight upper hand here with plenty of citrus hop pop followed by another dose of floral. Malts are decidedly sweet with a good caramel backbone. It mingles nicely in the bouquet of hops.
Now the taste. A well balanced beer with a malt bill that's sweet and complex. The hops are not overbearing here and are inline perfectly.
There is a rich hop flavors of citrus and grapefruit and a lesser flavor more atuned to floral. Maltty biscuit finishes up the tasting.
Mouthfeel is medium with a clean finish.
A super tasting, very drinkable beer here with plenty of things going on.
This particular beer I had today was also very fresh.
The people up in Portland have a good thing here, I hope they realize that.
On the other hand the aroma and flavor dropped off quite a bit by the bottom of the growler.

Disappointed with this offering. Checked the freshness date, and was OK (still 2 months to go), but this beer didn't have any pizazz, almost like to was sitting around too long. Don't want to low-rate it, because I am a fan of the Black Butte Porter from Deschutes, but this was lacking.

on tap at Doubletree Hilton Hotel, Portland
Dark amber with white film.
Dark toast, orange rind, and pine on the nose.
Caramel and peach sweetness with lots of candy, then resin and tangelo hops end.
Mango finish and dry linger.
Medium, chewy, round.
Candy sweet - very entry level. No IBU bite, and cloys a bit. Slight sandpaper bitterness as it warms, but just not what I’m looking for in an APA.
