A - Clear orangish amber in color with a 2 finger frothy head. Head is orangish khaki in color. Head dissipates slowly. Carbonation is easy to see. 4/5

S - Grapefruit, citrus, apricot, oranges. Grassy and pine. Caramel sweetness. 4/5

T - Caramel, citrus, and a finish of pine/resin. Earthy with a bit of biscuit. Lingering bitterness. 3.75/5

M - Moderate to high carbonation. Very dry, especially the back end. 4/5

O - Very nice complexity to the aroma. Aroma is also well balanced. Definitely a hop forward pale ale. Bitterness overshadows sweetness. I prefer the Inversion IPA to this but this reflects the mainstream IPA style more truly. 4/5

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a nearly clear medium copper with just a thin white head that fades away to a bit of wispy lacing on top of the beer. Nothing on the sides of the glass.

Aroma of peach and cherries with maybe a touch of grape. It is definitely fruity but not necessarily tropical. Some hints of caramel as well.

The flavor carries the same fruitiness found in the aroma with subtle hints of strawberry, peach, and cherry. There is a strong grain note in the base that I have noticed with other Deschutes Brews. It provides a nice contrast to the hops although borders on being too much. Bitterness is light leading to a palate cleansing finish.

Overall, not a bad APA although I feel like it is rated a little higher than it should be. The graininess is just a little too much but I wouldn't hesitate to pick this up again.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark copper with a 3-finger foamy head. Fades to 1 finger. Slight chill haze. Excellent lacing & retention. Visible carbonation.

Aroma: Piney/resiny. Touch of fruit. Something tart & tropical; kiwi?

Taste: Malty arrival. Sweet, but not cloying. Astringent toward the end of mid-palate, with candy-like fruity quality, then solid hop bitterness and astringency, but not a powerful hop finish.

Mouthfeel: Rich, malty arrival then very astringent.

Overall: This is totally unlike Burning River, much sweeter, and then this astringency. Really balanced; definitely would buy again, but I could see this being too sweet after a couple.
