Appearance: Pours very dark brown color with a good two fingers of khaki head, which reduces to just a bit of lacing. A bit of ruby peeks around the edges, so it's not totally black.
Smell: A lot of roasted malts and coffee make up the backbone of this beer. I also get a bit of burned toast that results from the combination of hops and malts. I can already tell that this is a very balanced stout.
Taste: Roasted malts and coffee are the predominant flavors in this beer like the smell indicates. Maybe a touch of bitter dark chocolate as well. On the back end there is a pretty significant dose of hops to balance it out. Very pleasant tasting, and easy to drink.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability: This beer is under medium bodied, with some fine carbonation. It seems appropriate for the style. Drinkability is very high, this beer just has a nice solid flavor and it's not too heavy. Deschutes hits again.
