12oz bottle, best by November 5, 2012. Served at cellar temperature.

Pours black with a huge foamy 4-finger brown head that leaves clumpy rings of lacing behind and holds a really good cap.

Aroma is cocoa powder, coffee, roasted malts, dark fruits such as plums and figs, but the cocoa is the dominant component. Good to very good strength.

Flavor is roasted malts, chocolate & coffee, dark fruit, caramel, toffee, molasses, a hint of herbal hops. A bit of sweetness, mild bitterness, minimal alcohol.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth and easy drinkin’

Fantastic Stout. One of the best I’ve had in this style. Lovely cocoa notes with additional complexity underneath. Not too big, so it is relatively easy to drink. A real treat. Hopefully some day Deschutes will start distributing out to these parts and I can get this on the regular.

12 ounce bottle, poured into my CBS snifter, complements of FishPondManager from the TMToBA Jeopardy competition.

A: Pours a deep black, with a half-finger mocha head. Pretty.

S: Roasted barley, chocolate malt, bittersweet chocolate, light hints of coffee. Slightly sweeter nose than expected and some light alcohol, which surprised me given the fairly low ABV for the stout. Very nice.

T: Super roasty, with some coffee underneath. Chocolate malt shines through, but not really similar to the semisweet chocolate from the nose. Mild bitterness from the hops, which also creeps into the finish. Overall, the finish is roasty, no alcohol to note.

M: Just shy of medium bodied, with moderate to high levels of carbonation.

O: A good stout, but not anything extraordinary. Would likely grab occasionally if I saw on the shelf, but would not trade for.
