Had this at the draught house here in austin the day it came out, and met the sales rep for deschutes.
The beer had a small head, the color was pretty dark.
This beer took me by surprise because it was not a big porter by no means. it was more of inbetween a brown and a porter.
the backend had some smoke to it.
This was a very easy to drink beer. You could gulp it no problems, but then you would not taste the beer.
I would find myself picking this up again, and I know my wife will like it. I am glad they that texas (specifically austin) has gotten this beer. It certainly adds more variety to some of the great beers we have here.
The bars in austin that carry this are, flying saucer, draught house, gingerman, woodrows, and opal divine.
also the bottles should start showing up around october or so 2008.

On tap at Billy's Long Bar in Albuqerque.
My beer arrives in a frosted pint glass but still manages to look good and retain a good head. A dark khaki-colored head, it dissipates somewhat quickly but I blame the glass. The body is dark brown and cloudy with trickles of carbonation.
A good chocolate aroma emanates from this brew. It's semi-sweet, malty, and has a dry aroma.
More chocolate on the tongue, but it's like baker's chocolate and slightly bitter. There's some sweetness like caramel, and a hint of some hops.
I'm impressed by the bitterness on this beer, and the way it combines with the dark bitter chocolate. This makes for a long bitterness at the finish and a dry stout-quality. Thickness and creaminess suggest this beer is nitroed, so that's impressive.
Overall, an excellent regular lineup beer. This is a nice reminder that a basic, traditional beer can still be splendid.

A - Pours cola like in appearance. Nice 1 1/2 finger tan head. Excellent retention and lacing
S - Light aroma. Sweet malts, lots of chocolate and even a slight bourbon on the finish if you use your imagination.
T - Not as sweet as the nose. Has a bitter finish with a hint of smoke. More coffee beans flavor present than chocolate but both are there. Smoke tends to linger on the finish
M - A medium body beer. Fizzy in the mouth and fairly smooth to drink. Just the tiniest hint of burn when the smoke flavor lingers
O - A solid porter. Nice flavor and I particularly enjoyed the smoky finish. Not a sessionable beer, but would be very enjoyable on a cool fall day or with some spicy bbq
