(4.5) A: Near black with a very tall and foamy dirty tan coloured head. Very long lasting retention with lacing that clings in sheets to the glass. This is the best looking porter I’ve seen in a long time.
(4.0) S: Roasted malt, fruity (citrus & tropical), damp woods, nutty elements, and lighter caramel. Nicely balanced with a smooth and subtle aroma that’s well integrated.
(3.75) T: Fruity with a mostly tropical profile (bananas), roasted malts (bit of chocolate/coffee), darker fruits, faint smoke, and caramel. Smooth and creamy with quite a lingering dryness. With the fruity presence this leans towards hoppy but the roasted malt provides a bit of balance.
(4.0) M: Lighter bodied with a moderate carbonation. Creamy with a bit of slickness.
(3.75) D: My expectations may have been a bit too high, however I also do prefer porters that are less fruit focused and lean towards the malty side. This is still very good and I can appreciate it for what it is but just not my style of porter.

On tap at Billy's Long Bar in Albuqerque.
My beer arrives in a frosted pint glass but still manages to look good and retain a good head. A dark khaki-colored head, it dissipates somewhat quickly but I blame the glass. The body is dark brown and cloudy with trickles of carbonation.
A good chocolate aroma emanates from this brew. It's semi-sweet, malty, and has a dry aroma.
More chocolate on the tongue, but it's like baker's chocolate and slightly bitter. There's some sweetness like caramel, and a hint of some hops.
I'm impressed by the bitterness on this beer, and the way it combines with the dark bitter chocolate. This makes for a long bitterness at the finish and a dry stout-quality. Thickness and creaminess suggest this beer is nitroed, so that's impressive.
Overall, an excellent regular lineup beer. This is a nice reminder that a basic, traditional beer can still be splendid.

A - Pours cola like in appearance. Nice 1 1/2 finger tan head. Excellent retention and lacing
S - Light aroma. Sweet malts, lots of chocolate and even a slight bourbon on the finish if you use your imagination.
T - Not as sweet as the nose. Has a bitter finish with a hint of smoke. More coffee beans flavor present than chocolate but both are there. Smoke tends to linger on the finish
M - A medium body beer. Fizzy in the mouth and fairly smooth to drink. Just the tiniest hint of burn when the smoke flavor lingers
O - A solid porter. Nice flavor and I particularly enjoyed the smoky finish. Not a sessionable beer, but would be very enjoyable on a cool fall day or with some spicy bbq
