Thanks to nickd717 for this in a trade
12 oz brown bottle with best by date 04-07-11, served in a nonic pint glass
A: Color is dark brown when held to the light; otherwise appears black, with ruby highlights. Clear with quite a bit of carbonation in the form of bubbles from the bottom. Big 5 fingers of tan head with good retention and excellent lacing.
S: First impression is the chocolate malt aromas. Other smells are of toasted breads, caramel, and the sweetness of dark chocolate. Nice overall roasted character; little to no hop aroma.
T: The roasted malts are prominent in the taste to me, with a coffee-like bitterness as well. Well balanced, with a slight semi-sweetness rounding out the burnt/roasted flavors. A bit of welcome alcohol warmth is present.
M: Medium-full bodied and moderately carbonated. Aftertaste is a toasted malt bitterness, but still has an element of sweet that's good.
D: Very enjoyable and well-balanced porter; an excellent example of the style.

A - Pours cola like in appearance. Nice 1 1/2 finger tan head. Excellent retention and lacing
S - Light aroma. Sweet malts, lots of chocolate and even a slight bourbon on the finish if you use your imagination.
T - Not as sweet as the nose. Has a bitter finish with a hint of smoke. More coffee beans flavor present than chocolate but both are there. Smoke tends to linger on the finish
M - A medium body beer. Fizzy in the mouth and fairly smooth to drink. Just the tiniest hint of burn when the smoke flavor lingers
O - A solid porter. Nice flavor and I particularly enjoyed the smoky finish. Not a sessionable beer, but would be very enjoyable on a cool fall day or with some spicy bbq
