Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.
Poured from 12oz bottle to mug.
A - Beer pours deep black with a nice 1 finger tan head with great retention and lacing.
S - Huge complex roasted malt character on the nose. Detectable chocolate malts with hints of coffee and a raisin-type fruit aroma. Great aroma.
T/M - The beer starts in line with the aroma with a huge complexe roasted malt character. The middle starts to develop into a balanced porter style with the malts and a mild earthy hop character. The beer finishes creamy and super smooth. Medium boed with good carbonation.
D - Extremely
Overall this is an excellent porter, probably the standard for me. Great flavor and character and so tasty. Highly recommended.

Bought a 12 FLUID OUNCE bottle of this from The Bayou in Salt Lake City, UT for $6. Poured from the Creme colored label w/ the Black Butte Ranch in the background into a 16oz Bayou Pint Glass. Has BEST BY: 06/17/12 on the side of the label.
Aroma- Has one of the stronger coffee, roasted malt aromas I've came across in a while! Very sweet and has a unnoticeable hop aroma.
Appearance- Poures a 1.5 finger, dark brown head that dies fairly quickly. Has the deepest brown color body you can get and leaves thick lacing behind.
Flavor- Perfect taste! Has nice roasted malts and light coffee in the beginning. Light-medium hops then come in and support the malt with a light bitterness level at the finish. Coffee not as big as the aroma.
Mouthfeel- Light-Medium Bodied, Light Carbonation, SMOOTH, and leaves coffee on the palate.
Overall Impression- A very flavorful porter! I ordered this purely because Deschutes does not get distributed to Missouri but as of this week, this has changed... Tough luck for me! Will be enjoying this MANY more times though and definitely recommend if you like a nice roasty porter with a coffee finish.

A - Poured out a jet-black color with a one-finger, tan head of bubbly foam. It left some sudsy trails of lace on the glass.
S - It smelled roasty with some coffee notes. Also notes of chocolate and caramel.
T - It tasted very roasty with dark chocolate and coffee. There was some toffee and caramel flavors, too.
M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied porter with a dry, clean finish.
O - This is a very good porter. Deschutes continues to impress with every brew they make.

It's an East vs. West showdown tonight! I'm doing a side-by-side comparison of this beer and Smuttynose Robust Porter.
This beer had a bountiful, cream-colored head that receded to a one-finger thickness. The color is pretty much black, with a smidge of red showing at the bottom even before I held it to the light.
The aroma has cocoa notes, and there's something that smells bitter. I can't tell if it's a roasted coffee bitter or a hop bitter.
I taste dark chocolate, bitter coffee, and licorice. The finish is drier, relative to the Robust Porter. The mouthfeel is also thinner.
This is a solid beer that might have fared better in the scoring if it wasn't going directly against Smuttynose's porter. I wouldn't mind picking up some more the next time I'm on the West Coast.

When chilled slightly this beer gives off the smell of Girl Scout mint chocolate cookies. As it warms it has more baker's chocolate aromas.
This isn't heavy at all. Maybe a tad thin. But it really gives out the cocoa flavors. And faintly reminds me of smoking planks- dunno why. The warmer it gets the more the coffee notes really come on.
It has a little bite on the mouthfeel and isn't overly sweet. Very nice starter beer for those just getting into dark beers.
One I stock up on and an everyday kind of pour.

Beer pours a nice dark brown with a fingers worth of white foam on tap.
Beer smells of coffee and sweet chocolate.
Beer tastes very similar to the nose. Very roasty and finishes very sweet. Starts off with a creamy, coffee taste that is very nice.
Mouthfeel is spot on with what a Porter should be. Very rich and creamy, but not too much so.
Overall, a very good porter.
