Dark mahogany with medium foamy/frothy head with good retention. Sweet, peaty caramel aroma with a hint of roasted malts. Mixture of chocolate, light caramel sweetness, and roasted malt bitterness with a peaty lingering and a tinge of alcohol. Moderate carbonation and mouthcoating and fairly smooth.
Okay cold but much better warm, this is a great winter warmer with fantastic taste. I think it's the peaty taste as I do love a good scotch ale but it is still a complex and highly enjoyable ale. I always have a hard time resisting picking up a six pack when they're on sale.

On tap at the Local Taphouse.
Pours a red colour, bit of haze. Head is off-white, webbed lace but sticks to the glass. Looks nice.
Smells like banana esters, with some dry sweet spice, nutmeg and vanilla. Touch of raisin. Could have more richness and more robustness, but decent.
Taste is chocolatey. Dry cocoa with some toffee, sultanas and some dried orange peel. Not much spice; more fruit and lots of chocolate. Not bad.
Full body, nicely textured. Slightly dry on the back.
Nice beer; have had better spiced Winter seasonals though, generally better because of more spice.
