Added in as an extra by eclipse54 - huge thanks!
Poured into a deschutes tulip... dang how i miss living in Bend. It had been a long time, so I was looking forward to this. Pours a mahogany-ruby with about 2 inches of yellow-pearl head that settled over the course of a minute to a centimeter-thick gauze with quite a few amoebas clinging to the sides of the glass. In the glass the beer looks like rich, dark cinnamon.
The aroma is decidedly faint, with an initial reaction of soapy, honey malt - actually not what i was expecting. There is a slight sting of acid, but nothing to make me think infection... more like a hint of lemon or orange zest.
The initial sip was much like the initial sniff - muted, and not as complex as I was expecting. The sweet malt hits up front, but the whole taste dissolves quickly with little aftertaste, just a hint of almond on the back of my tongue. The farther I go into the glass the more flavor that comes forward, such as banana, but I am still feeling like something is amiss, like a lack of bittering hops to balance out the sweet and add some much-needed flavor on the end?
I enjoy Deschutes as much, if not more, than the next person... I mean I love Deschutes. Every day I mourn not being in Bend still. But this year's Jubelale feels a bit lacking right now.

On tap at the Local Taphouse.
Pours a red colour, bit of haze. Head is off-white, webbed lace but sticks to the glass. Looks nice.
Smells like banana esters, with some dry sweet spice, nutmeg and vanilla. Touch of raisin. Could have more richness and more robustness, but decent.
Taste is chocolatey. Dry cocoa with some toffee, sultanas and some dried orange peel. Not much spice; more fruit and lots of chocolate. Not bad.
Full body, nicely textured. Slightly dry on the back.
Nice beer; have had better spiced Winter seasonals though, generally better because of more spice.
