this 2003 bottling pours a light chestnut color with light head, and leaves light lacing down the glass.
scent is hoppy with only faint maltiness.
taste is hoppy with pleasant malt undertones, and dare I say even a little buttery. (strangely enough, this buttery flavor is NOT present in the cask- conditioned version.) body and mouthfeel are definitely in-line with other strong seasonal ales. hops finish off each mouthful.
I keep getting flashbacks to mirror pond while drinking this. it's a very similar hops profile.
good for sipping by the fireside. or while surfing the web.

On tap at the Local Taphouse.
Pours a red colour, bit of haze. Head is off-white, webbed lace but sticks to the glass. Looks nice.
Smells like banana esters, with some dry sweet spice, nutmeg and vanilla. Touch of raisin. Could have more richness and more robustness, but decent.
Taste is chocolatey. Dry cocoa with some toffee, sultanas and some dried orange peel. Not much spice; more fruit and lots of chocolate. Not bad.
Full body, nicely textured. Slightly dry on the back.
Nice beer; have had better spiced Winter seasonals though, generally better because of more spice.
