2004 Bottle Release
Dark amber/copper color. Not quite black like many winter ales. Light tan to almost white head retains well.
Aroma mostly of pine and dust with some "Skor" toffee candybar aromas. (no, the dust isn't from my glass).
On the palate you notice an alcoholic edge right away, so much so that you need another sip to seek out the other flavors. Burnt caramel flavors are prominent with a sweet warming finish. Hops balance well to my palate - they're not too aggressive as I expected from the nose.
Moderately drinkable - goes well for the season but it's not a beer you'd like to have 2 or 3 of in a single sitting.

On tap at the Local Taphouse.
Pours a red colour, bit of haze. Head is off-white, webbed lace but sticks to the glass. Looks nice.
Smells like banana esters, with some dry sweet spice, nutmeg and vanilla. Touch of raisin. Could have more richness and more robustness, but decent.
Taste is chocolatey. Dry cocoa with some toffee, sultanas and some dried orange peel. Not much spice; more fruit and lots of chocolate. Not bad.
Full body, nicely textured. Slightly dry on the back.
Nice beer; have had better spiced Winter seasonals though, generally better because of more spice.
