Pours a mellow dark amber, looks like a standup effort on just its appearance. Decent head, particularly foamy in the center, excellent lacing.
Smells sweet and tangy, like overripe guava, or some other tropical fruit, bitterness of hops also comes through in the scent.
Immediate bitterness of piney hops dances with anchoring malts toward the back of the palate. Alpha acids really linger through the aftertaste, along with subtle hints of dry bagel. Certainly hits the palate hard and stays there, enjoyably.
Zings the tastebuds, definitely makes its impression on the tongue; probably pairs extremely well with braised, salty or rubbed steak. Hops would do well to cut the grease and relieve thirst.
Would certainly enjoy more, and I wouldn't figure for an IPA but this could grow on me.
