12 oz. bottle, best by 8/28/13, poured into a Bells tulip. Darker than expected; mostly clear, light brown body with some yellow tint. Nice two finger dark tan head that has decent retention and leave some rings of lacing down the glass.
The aroma is little understated, as the malts overpower the hops. But, once the hops come through, tropical and floral hop notes dominate, with a little hint of grapefruit.
The flavor is the opposite of the aroma in that the hops are very forward. More pine bitterness as the start that yields to the light citrus and floral notes. Honestly, there are some floral hop tastes here I've never experienced before. I looked up the mix on the Deschutes website and see that 6 different hops were used, so the blend is unique to me. The hop flavors leave only a small bit of room for the caramel malt flavor in the back end.
Medium texture in the mouthfeel and very drinkable. Definitely a different IPA than most I'm used to. Solid brew, but not one I'll make a regular.
