This brew pours a mostly opaque copper color with reddish highlights. A thick three-finger head, some of which remains on top until the end and heavy lacing.

The smell is orange, grapefruit, lemon and pine with a bready and caramel malt backbone.

The taste follows the nose; the pine dominates but all of the hop flavors mentioned in the smell are there in the taste. The bready/caramel malt backbone is also consistent throughout.

Wow, the only thing stopping me from giving this a 5 is that it is hard to say anything is perfect, especially since IPA's vary so much but this about as close to perfect an IPA that I have had; try it!

Strong and smooth semi-bitter IPA

Appearance (4.5): Clear copper color with a one finger egg shell colored head. Looks great, although dark for the style

Smell (4): Dank tropical fruits, pine, lemongrass; A bit earthy

Taste (3.75): Pine dominates the palate with slight citrus undertones that carry onto the aftertaste with hints of biscuit malt. I also detect a candied sweetness underneath it all

Mouthfeel (3.75): Medium body; Sticky on the palate with slight bitterness--Could have used slightly more carbonation

Overall (3.9): Picked up the variety pack, and this was my first choice. This one definitely falls into the piney ipa category. Its tasty, but it was a little all over the place for me and the individual tastes didnt quite match each other. It is a good ipa, but not a great one. Looking forward to trying the rest of these beers in the variety pack
