Purchased from City Beer Store in San Francisco.
A -- The beer pours a pitch black. Very nice lacing, but minimal head. It looks fairly standard for the style.
S -- I'm not getting much aroma aside from what I take to be chocolate malt. I get a slight undertone of vanilla and caramel, but complexity just isn't there.
T -- I hate to say "Beer X tastes very much like beer y," but to me, this tastes very much like North Coast Old Rasputin. This certainly isn't a bad thing, as I think that beer is fantastic, but it doesn't strike me as being unique. That said, I love the taste so I'd be a fool to knock the taste. Again, vanilla and caramel, but far from complex.
M -- The beer is thin bodied, a bit of a far cry from the trend in American imperial stout brewers. I would compare the body to Alaskan Smoked Porter. I'm not really sure I enjoy a stout this thin.
D -- Very drinkable, but again, expectations come to play. If you make a very limited release, you set high standards. I would certainly say that the beer is overhyped. I don't think this is a bad thing, as it has certainly opened me up to other offerings from Deschutes. If you find this at your local beer store, you owe it to yourself to try it. Otherwise, I'd go with Obsidian Stout, which in my opinion is a better offering from the brewery.

Opened on 7/21/14 and poured into Westbrook Snifter. Not often am I moved to write a review but this was surprisingly delicious.
S: mostly molasses and caramel. smell was a let down compared to the taste...was totally expecting a dextrose bomb
T: a nice amount of coffee, chocolate and ending with a nice amount of roast. the bitterness of the finish really balances the brew out so it’s not overly sweet or cloying.
M: chewy and perfectly carbonated. this was one of the highlights of the brew as it’s perfectly carbed and chewy.
O: I really enjoyed this. Barrel Aged beers had recently been letting me down. Too much cloying sweetness and not enough roast and bitter finish. This was a wonderful reminder of how delicious BA stouts can be.
