My first bottle of the 2012 reserve. Best after 8/20, have two more bottles I'm aging so I'll re-review then. Poured into a snifter

Pours a rich brassy copper that gets nice and cloudy in the middle. Little transparency, little carbonation. Had a half finger of foam which receded quickly, moderate retention. Not bad looking for the style. Smells of cherries, oak, apple, vinegar, some citrus and some malt. Taste is upfront sour cherry and apple, which quickly turns from sour to a mild bitter. Malty after taste, gets a bit sweeter with each sip. Feel is a little bland, doesn't finish with a bang. Pretty sticky though, acids leave a nice tingle. Overall it's pretty good, and should really improve with age. The malts and yeast still have a lot of work changing over the next year hopefully leaving this beer with a tangy and sweeter kick. Looking forward to popping another in August

Re-review, 8/30/13. Hit the best after date, bomber to a snifter, 2012 reserve

Pours a nice color- caramel, amber, copper, mahogany. A very vibrant shade between red and brown. A finger of foam has quickly receded to a ring a froth in the center. A thin but steady stream of carbonation shooting from the center. Good lacing and legs, transparency near 90%, perfect score

I have a bit of a stuffy nose but the smell seems a bit muted. When I really get in there- sour cherries, oak, red wine, vinegar, apple, and a sweet malty finish. Smell has gotten a lot sweeter, melds well with the sour

Taste is with the nose, sour cherry along with some apple with the fruits, strong oak coming through along with the wine. Sweet malts come through with the finish, some good complexity

Feel is a medium body, medium sourness that's balanced nicely with the sweetness from the malts. Nice tingle on the tongue, pretty drinkable. Most all the alcohol is concealed, very smooth

Overall: Better color, development of legs, oak and wine coming through much stronger on nose and taste, sweeter finish, better feel. Has definitely improved through the aging and very nicely, can't wait to get more this year, I'll re review a third time when I open the third

Appearance: Poured a medium brown color, almost looked liked bourbon. Very little head that dissipated very quickly.

Aroma: A full aroma that contained hints of bourbon, dark fruits, and red wine.

Taste: Sour but not overwhelmingly so. Very strong but balanced flavors of cherries, acid, and wine. Flavors are layered and each taste offers a different amount of each flavor.

Mouthfeel: A medium-bodied beer that tastes lighter due to the light carbonation.

Overall: Very good sour beer. Not lip-puckering sour but very drinkable. The aroma gives off a bourbon hint but the beer was not aged in bourbon barrels and each taste is a little surprise with the different flavors in the beer.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Vintage 2012. Best after 20 August 2013.

A: No head. Hazy auburn.

S: Flatly tart in a very Oud Bruin sort of way. Top notes of lemon zest. Deeper red-fruitier scents as well.

T: Mmm. Interesting. This is basically a barleywine with a hint of lambic tartness. As it warms up, I realise I'm completely wrong and the truth is the opposite. This is an honest Oud Bruin, true to the style,

M: Tart then sweet...sweet then tart...tart then sweet...This beer is a pendulum.

O: This is an incredible beer. Highly recommended. Want to have again.

2012 vintage. Tasted 30 May 2014.

Pours a murky medium brown. Just a little head, gone fast, not much lacing - but that's typical of a sour.

Smell is tart, with vinegar, dark fruit, and red wine. A delightful combination, quite sour, but the aroma is full and potent.

Taste is a complex blend of acidic sour, red wine vinegar, and cherries. So many shades of sour, teasing me with different delights each time I taste it. Again, it's full-flavored, and quite multidimensional. I love the depth and variety it brings.

Feel is top-notch. It's medium-bodied, heavier than many similar beers, but with prickly carbonation that lightens it and makes the flavors dance. That combo of heavy and light is fantastic.

The more I drink this, the more I like it. The level of complexity in the flavor is impressive, and the feel is a perfect complement. An excellent, robust sour.
