Moving on to the fourth and final component beer in the Collage deconstruction tasting, I have to thank BA Deschutes_Fan for sending this bottle to me in a trade and completing the final missing piece of the tasting. Heck, that's where I got the idea for the tasting in the first place, as well as the recommended order, so cheers to Deschutes_Fan! Enjoyed out of a 22 oz brown bomber with the 2012 vintage marked clearly on the front of the label and a "best after" date of 8/20/13. Poured into an old fashioned glass.

Appearance (4.0) - Pours a caramel brown colored body with a hazy disposition that prevents much ability to see into or through the liquid. Similar to The Stoic, it was hard to coax much of a head out of this one, instead resulting in a half finger of effervescent head that that shrunk away into near obscurity almost immediately, leaving an off-white ringlet with a tannish tint and a smattering of islands of film across the survace of the beer.

Smell (4.25) - Well, any disappointment that might've come from the appearance has quickly been waved off, as the aroma is a wonderfully acidic blend of apple cider vinegar and sour cherry; it almost nose run because of that excellent acidic profile. There is also a small measure of musty funk, partially from the barrel-aging I imagine, but also due to the use of Brett.

Taste (4.25) - Picking right up where the aroma left, there is an excellent note from the sour cherries, but not overpowering, letting the base oud bruin beer do it's thing. Balsamic, red wine vinegar and granny smith apples all seem to make an impression on my tastebuds before giving way to a nice bit of malty sweetness that prevents my face from puckering in on itself.

Mouthfeel (4.25) - Medium-bodied and moderate carbonation, with an initial puckering feel on the tongue followed by a dry finish.

Overall (4.25), a really nice take on the style, with the cherries giving it a bit of a kriek feel, but a bit sweeter from the base beer than you'd get from a kriek. Probably my favorite individual beer of the group of beers that make up Collage.

A: Pours a dark, murky orange with a white ring of head.

S: Very oud-bruiny nose, stale fruit, dark candied fruit.

T: Some lemony, citrus rind, stale fruit, cherry, and a slight bitterness.

M: Medium bodied and smoothish.

O: An excellent sour, recommended to any fans of any of the sour beer styles. One of Deschutes best.

Appearance: Poured a medium brown color, almost looked liked bourbon. Very little head that dissipated very quickly.

Aroma: A full aroma that contained hints of bourbon, dark fruits, and red wine.

Taste: Sour but not overwhelmingly so. Very strong but balanced flavors of cherries, acid, and wine. Flavors are layered and each taste offers a different amount of each flavor.

Mouthfeel: A medium-bodied beer that tastes lighter due to the light carbonation.

Overall: Very good sour beer. Not lip-puckering sour but very drinkable. The aroma gives off a bourbon hint but the beer was not aged in bourbon barrels and each taste is a little surprise with the different flavors in the beer.
