A - Pours a clear amber-orange with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel and biscuit malts with strong grapefruit, pineapple, and other tropical hops with some citrus and pine hops as well.

T - Starts off with grapefruit, pineapple, and other citrus flavored hops with some sweet caramel malts. Through the middle, some pine and resiny hops and more bitterness comes through alongside some biscuit malts. The finish is a mix of pine hops with some sweet caramel malts and some bitterness.

M - Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and bitter finish.

D - Very drinkable. Good hop profile and bitterness with enough malt flavor to balance things out.

Bomber poured into a tulip
Best by 06/26/12 .... Well crap. Need to remember to look for bottle dates.

A- Pours hazy golden orange. A two finger bubbly white head with decent lacing and nice alcohol legs. A beauty.

S- Extremely sugary, sweet bready caramel notes. Lots of resin and pine. Pineapple and a lot of grapefruit and grape. An extremely sweet smelling DIPA. I think the hop profile would be much more potent had this been fresh.

T- A sweet bitterness up front. Hop profile has faded. Still has a nice pine and citrus character. There is a lot of resin and lemon as well as overly ripened grapefruits from the aged hops. Malt profile is sugary sweet. It's a bready beer with some caramel and toffee notes. Not as bitter as I was expecting.

M- Drinks pretty easy considering that this beer has plenty of feel to it. The alcohol is well disguised. Nice carbonation and rather refreshing. Dry and hoppy aftertaste.

O- Im impressed by this one, considering that this is an IPA that is past its best by date, I am impressed and optimistic that the fresh version is quite the masterpiece. Wish I didn't find this 5 hours outside of where I live because I want more, and when I find it, I hope its not a single outdated bottle. For those who can get a fresh bottle, I envy you.

Pours a medium amber colour with nice off-white head and respectable lacing. Smells quite floral, quite complex but I can't put a name on any of it. The taste is phenomenal, beautifully balanced malt and hops, despite its bitterness. There's some pine in the taste that wasn't present in the smell. Very dry finish. Overall, this is an excellent example of a double IPA. Good stuff!

Reviewed from notes.

Pours out a darker (yet clear) orange color with a single finger of stable off-white head, minimal lacing. Smells of candied orange peel, hibiscus, pineapple, and overripe papaya with just a hint of mango. The tropical fruits carry the majority of the flavor, with plenty of caramel / toffee malt to compensate and orange peel coming in third place on the tongue, kicking in about mid-sip alongside a mild sort of peach and nectarine sweetness. Like drinking a fruit basket, but amazingly smooth and creamy in texture, and with a snappy carbonation to boot. Really well done and definitely worth trying.

Really nice complex aroma with initially a kinda' strong hop oil, but it moves quickly to a fruit salad of citrus and tropical aromas with a particularly nice mango. Little shot of oil excess in background takes away a bit for me, otherwise quite outstanding.
Slightly cloudy amber with big full head.
Flavor doesn't quite match the delightful aroma. It's good and solid and really not too far from just a big IPA, however, the excess that IIPA can be known for does show, with a growing grapefruit tartness in the finishing bitterness and shots of hop excess in the flavor. However, the malt balance is nicely done and many hop flavors are nice, although no where near as complex as the aroma.
Fully moderate body with nicely done level of carbonation makes the smoothness enjoyable.
Nicely done IIPA. A couple of spots of excess knock it a bit for me, but the assets are quite strong. The alcohol is concealed well and it drinks a little smaller than what's listed. Recommended.
Thanks Sparky.

22 oz bottle poured into a tulip at cellar temperature.

L - Pale amber color with a huge 4-finger pillowy cream-colored head. Pretty good retention and excellent lacing. Crystal clear with a good amount of carbonation bubbles.

S - Big hop bouquet with grapefruit, peach, pineapple, pine, pepper, and lots of grassy, earthy, almost musty notes. Caramel malt and honey aromas are present, as well.

T - Sweet caramel malt and honey flavors followed closely by a bitter blast of hops with grapefruit, pineapple, pepper, pine, earthy, and musty notes. Great hop profile with lots to pick out.

F - Medium-bodied with a good amount of carbonation, a sticky and chewy mouthfeel, and a spicy, bitter, and dry finish. Black pepper spiciness and earthy hop bitterness linger for a while. The spice complements a nice throat-and-palate-warming sensation from the alcohol.

O - Experimental, indeed. This has to have one of the most diverse hop profiles I’ve ever experienced. There are lots hop aromas and flavors to identify. Very tasty and drinkable. I’d say that the spiciness and big earthiness that borders on mustiness cuts down on the drinkability a little, but it’s so intriguing that it makes me want to drink more. Nice offering from Deschutes, and I’d like to try more from them.
