A: Pours a lovely orange-amber. A strong 1-2 inch head initially, but dies down to an everlasting 1/4 inch crown. Moderately carbonated. Crystal clear. Looks lovely.

S: Nice aromas for a pale-amber ale. Pleasant fruitiness mixed with citrusy, piney, and even grassy hop aromas. SOme orange and grapefruit come out as it warms up. These aromas are backed up by a pleasant piney bitterness. I do get some malts as well with a munich-like maltiness followed by a deep caramel note. Not much breadiness. The yeast must be a more expressive strain than your typical west coast pale ale as I note some strong fruity esters. Very aromatic and pleasing.

T: Well-balanced hoppiness and malts. At first I get more of the fruitiness that I mentioned above. THe hops add some orange and grapefruit flavors at first. The bitterness is more piney and lemon rind-esque. I do get some lemon character in the aftertaste. The maltiness is well balanced. There are some rich caramel flavors throughout. The yeast does add a little fruitiness in the flavor, but not as much as was present in the aroma.

M: LIght-medium bodied. Finishes pretty clean. Smooth feel across the palate. Moderate carbonation.

D: This is a very nice pale-amber ale. I'm not sure if I'd call it an amber as it is missing a little bit of the maltiness present in the style. It definitely has some caramel malts as well. The hops and malt flavors are well balanced. I feel the yeast character is what makes this beer enjoyable. The strain must be more expressive than your standard west coast strain. I find some of the esters present enjoyable. I will buy this again.

12 oz glass into a pint glass over the weekend. Best by 7/10/14, so a couple days past. Oh well.

Looks good, amber with a yellow tint, 1 inch head somewhere between creamy and foamy (croamy?) Very good lacing. Not a lot of carbonation here.

Not getting anything on the nose. Maybe the old snout is off today.

Taste I'm getting is very subtle across the board. And improves toward the back end of the drink. A malt sweetness, with a faint but obvious hop bite (if that makes any sense) Could be affected by being at the end of its best by date.

Mouth was medium, neither soft or dry

Overall, not my favorite beer from one of the better breweries. But still a decent drink.
