From notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip.

My pour is very slightly hazy, with a full amber color in the middle of the glass and a lighter caramel color around the edges.

The aroma has a fairly mild and subtle character to it. Bready malt sets the base, with some light caramel notes. With a swirl of the glass, a dash of honey and floral hops come into my nose as well.

Each sip starts off with a bit of honey sweetness and a touch of lavender. The pale malt is the dominant flavor, providing a smooth, bready character. A slight citrus hoppiness that tastes mostly of grapefruit brings a bitterness that feels quite natural toward the finish.

Red Chair has a smooth body, with the flavors combining nicely into a mellow flavor overall. There is a slightly grainy, unfiltered feel to the beer, which I like. The carbonation is smooth and creamy, which adds to the mouthfeel as well. A little bit of hop residue lingers after each sip.

Overall I found this to be a smooth, enjoyable drinking brew; one that I could enjoy without worrying about any noticeable defects. On the other hand, the lack of a big hop presence or intense flavors leaves it behind some of my favorite pale ales.

12oz. bottle of a red ski lift chair in a cabin with a growler and 2 pint glasses sitting on a stump. To the far right of the label is a brief description of the beer. To the far left is the Government warning and a best before date. My bottle was best before 7/13/13.

When poured into a Southern Cigar City pint glass, this North Western Pale Ale was a bright golden tangerine color. It was one of those beers that wanted you believe that it was a solid copper color. A lightbulb showed me this beer's true color. On top was a mediocre less than 1/4 of an inch paper white head of foam. This mediocre head of foam had decent retention that left behind an island of foam and a tiny sting of white rings.

This beer had a nice dry hopped aroma. The hops were of the citrus variety. The aroma absolutely loved the citrus hops. Behind the citrus hops was a little orange, a drop of grapefruit, and a gentle touch of pine. After all that, the beer then finishes up with a faint whiff of toasted caramel malts.

The taste was pretty much had the same story as the aroma. Instead of citrus hops kicking things off, it was the toasted caramel malts that were in the beginning. You know the citrus hops can't be too far behind the malts. After the malts subsided, in comes the dry and slightly bitter citrus hops. Intermingled with the citrus hops was some floral hops as well. This tag team of a hop bite lasted about 3 seconds before it let the orange, pine, and grapefruit finish up the taste.

This was a light to medium bodied Pale Ale with a good amount of carbonation and a light aftertaste of toasted caramel malts and that tag team citrus/floral hop bite that was in the initial taste. This aftertaste didn't bother to stick around. It was gone in a flash.

A very good North Western Pale Ale that I would gladly drink on a red chair, on the ski slopes in Oregon, or in a swamp located in the Florida Everglades. It doesn't matter. A session beer a the way!

12oz bottle poured into Deschutes teku

Lightly hazed auburn pour with a two finger crop of lightly tanned head resting on top. Fades slowly, retaining well with plenty of patchy lacing on the glass.

Mild hop aromas with toasted bread crust, doughy malts and soft caramel sweetness.

Piny hops up front with understated notes of resin and bitterness. Bread crust and toasted grain in the backbone with biscuity malts. Reminds me a bit more of an English PA in the malt bill, finishing with a light snap of hops.

Medium body, decent carbonation, creamy and smooth on the tongue. Drinkable but pretty mild overall and frankly quite forgettable. This bottle was before the 'drink by' date but I'd like to give it another go with one that's less than a month old.

Copper color, Very malty for being labeled a Pale Ale. Almost sweet, but just enough of a hop balance to pull it back from the edge. The body almost crosses thew line into red/amber ale territory. The aroma strikes a nice balance of maltiness and the floral/citrus notes of the hops. A very nice beer!
