A: Pours a dark mahogany red with a mocha ring of head.

S: Dark candied fruits, vanilla, oak and bready malt in the nose.

T: Oak, vanilla, dark candied fruits, cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon.

M: Full bodied and smooth with a touch of alcohol burn.

O: Not as good as expected, but it was good. Perhaps a touch better than Jubelale.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 2010. Best after 29 January 2011.

A: Dark, impenetrable ruby. No head.

S: Sweet, boozy fruits. Spicy and dark. Loads of brown sugars. A little oxidized.

T: A bit flat, honestly. Old and mehhh. Strongly and pleasantly bitter (coffee? hops? alcohol?). It never really improves, but it is pleasant. Bright fruit and sharp alcohol.

M: Kind of flat and boring.

O: Disappointing after so many years, but not un-bad. Old ale-y.

Beautiful ruby red/amber/copper color.

Smell is funky, musty, grape, boozy, sweet, spicy and earthy

Mouthfeel is very very thin, surprisingly thin

Taste is sweet, funky, winey, metallic, slight spice or every so slight burn from alcohol.

Overall: keeping this review pretty simple and to the point: it's just okay. Not great, not horrible. If this is supposed to be aged for 10 years, I don't see it happening. In my opinion, it's on the downward slope, but maybe it's on the upswing in a few years. Overall, slightly disappointed, but certainly drinkable.
