Poured into a pint glass. Big thanks to psiweaver for this one.
4.0 A: Pitch black color. Nearly three fingers of creamy/frothy hybrid light tan head with great retention and plenty of lacing.
4.5 S: Definitely delivers on the hops. Lots of indistinguishable citrus and herbal hoppiness. Lots of crystal malt sweetness with some roasty and toasty components. Slightly burnt.
3.5 T: Equal balance between hops and dark flavors. Toasty, burnt, dark caramel malts. Hops are herbal, grapefruit, orange, and pine. Somewhat grainy. Healthy bitterness, especially on finish.
3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Carbonation is a touch too high for my liking. Could be both creamier and smoother.
3.5 D: I like hoppy stouts if the stout flavors are still dominant. Black IPAs don't meet this qualification. I don't think the style is bad, but I prefer regular IPAs or regular stouts. The integration of hops and dark flavors just doesn't work out that well. Anyway, this is a good one to taste, but not drink all the time.
