Look: Moderate coffee colored pour with a decent 1.5 finger khaki head.
Nose: Is roasted hops a smell? Maybe...? Further sniffage reveals burnt toast and toffee up front but quickly overshadowed by standard IPA smells almost to the point of undetectability. This trend continues well into the taste solidifying this brews only downfall.
Taste: You only get a microsecond to try and decipher the sweet, roasted malts. The hops barge in and conjure up a deliciously chaotic attack on the taste buds. The inability to ponder the dark notes without repeated sipping(before the hop-tsunami) is both frustrating and tasty.
Feel: Perfect carbonation in my opinion. Crisp and lingering at the same time. Another strong point in an all around solid beer.
Drink: The only metric holding Hop in the Dark back from greatness is potentially my own fault. It's too chaotic, there's too much going on at the same time. That HitD manages a 4 instead of a 3 is a construct of how fun it is to try and make sense of all the individual tastes before you're done with a full pour. However I'm not sure if I could drink more than 1-2 without sensory overload setting in.

A: Black with a creamy lightish brown head.
S: Lots of floral and citric hops in the nose, and maybe just a touch of roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate.
T: Tons of pine and floral hops, yet not overly bitter, some citrus, some coffee and roasted malt. Hop heavy.
M: Smooth and full bodied, a bit creamy.
O: A great example of the style, and one of my favorites from Deschutes.
Serving type: on-tap
