Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights, and a thick, light tan head that gradually wanes leaving pretty lacing behind with each sip.
Fragrant cascade hops are evident in the aroma followed by some faint roasty malt and a fruity sweetness.
Some Roasty malt in the flavor surrounded by lots of citrusy, bitter hops. Some nice earthy flavors come out as the beer warms a bit, followed by a dry, puckery finish that lingers almost like peppermint on the tongue.
Nice, medium body effectively delivers this beer to the palate.
Overall, this is a refreshing new sort of beer, and one that would be worth picking up a second time.

A: Black with a creamy lightish brown head.
S: Lots of floral and citric hops in the nose, and maybe just a touch of roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate.
T: Tons of pine and floral hops, yet not overly bitter, some citrus, some coffee and roasted malt. Hop heavy.
M: Smooth and full bodied, a bit creamy.
O: A great example of the style, and one of my favorites from Deschutes.
