22oz bomber poured into a snifter. Purchased from an online retailer, not available here in Illinois.
A- Pours very cola-like, dark brownish-black with a small amount of light toward the top and bottom of the glass. A finger's worth of an off-white head sticks around for awhile.
S- Not too much going on in the smell for me. Up front I get some slight citrusy hop notes make way to some roasty malts but neither are very dominant.
T- The taste of roasty malts hits first and lingers. Some hop notes are out back but not much. An overall bitterness from the hops is at the backend of each sip.
M- Medium-bodied, roasty, nicely carbonated.
While not a huge fan of the black ale/ black IPA genre, I thought this was an overall decent beer. Nice to have a Deschutes beer since it's not available around here.

A: Black with a creamy lightish brown head.
S: Lots of floral and citric hops in the nose, and maybe just a touch of roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate.
T: Tons of pine and floral hops, yet not overly bitter, some citrus, some coffee and roasted malt. Hop heavy.
M: Smooth and full bodied, a bit creamy.
O: A great example of the style, and one of my favorites from Deschutes.
Serving type: on-tap
