Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: ccrida on 12-31-2009

This mouthwateringly delicious IPA gets its flavor from a heavy helping of Citra and Mosaic hops. Don't worry, no fruit was harmed in the making of this beer.

This was a simple, classic American IPA with big flavor and a satisfying albeit fleeting mouthfeel. It poured a clear, deep amber with little head or lacing to follow. The aroma is slight and of citrus - not enticingly floral as some of the better American IPAs. Fresh hops tease the tongue but rapidly yield to an imposing malty presence. Hops linger slightly albeit eclipsed by a piquant quality: the mouthfeel of a peppery tripel without the saccharine richness of that genre. It's a unique American IPA with merits which will appeal to fans of saisons, Belgians, and casual IPA fans alike, but maybe not ideal for the dedicated hop-head, whose preferences - in fairness - my biases probably reflect. It strikes me as ideal for pairing with fish.

Absolutely wonderful American IPA! Loved the play between the full bodied malt backbone and the bright citrus and piney flavor of the hops!

Slightly less than a fingers worth of light khaki colored densely packed frothy goodness... Limited retention gives way to a full veil of mostly full lacing... The color is a slightly dull copper which is completely translucent... Largely still with just a stray quickly paced carbonation bubble here and there... The nose is rather pleasing... Fresh hops... Tropical fruit sweetness... Kiwi... Pineapple... Oranges... A light malt base of bready malts linger beneath the surface... The palate is incredibly well balanced... Alternating waves of hops and malt with neither ever really taking prominence... The hops are citrusy and tropical with a touch of earthiness mixed in... The malts are subtle and biscuity... Medium bodied... Sturdy... Moderate carbonation... Even and consistent... Incredibly pleasant... A really really good American IPA... Nothing earth shattering but rock solid or better in all facets... I'm a big fan of Deschutes and this one only helps their stature in my eyes... A job very well done... This will become something I drink with regularity in the future...

Had this regular and from a cask. Cask was 5 star. Regular was just as good just easier on the hops
