Notes/Commercial Description:
This mouthwateringly delicious IPA gets its flavor from a heavy helping of Citra and Mosaic hops. Don't worry, no fruit was harmed in the making of this beer.

12oz. bottle poured into imperial pint glass. *reviewing from brief notes*

A: Deep, clean copper hue with a large bleached khaki colored head, frothy in texture. Head retention is nothing short of wonderful and the lacing down the glass is almost unreal. Picture perfect.

S: Tons of juicy grapefruit aroma, perhaps hints of orange. Malt is very understated and just barely peeks through, adding only a little nuttiness to the scent.

T: Just as the nose suggested, Fresh Squeezed IPA is very hop-forward and juicy—lots of fresh grapefruit in the flavor. Malt makes more of an appearance on the tongue than it did in the nose. A faint caramel sweetness, a bit of nuttiness, and an almost wood-like flavor(?) in the finish keeps this one from becoming really bitter. I would have liked a little more bitterness, but nothing about this can constitute a complaint.

M: Carbonation is a bit on the weak side, but it's not alarmingly weak... just enough to keep it crisp feeling. Solid medium body, doesn't overpower the mouth, but feels comfortable enough to take big swigs. Goes down smooth and easy. Leaves tongue a bit sticky, allowing flavors to really hang around after the beer's gone down.

O: Deschutes continues to impress! I'm starting to think that the folks brewing over there in Bend, Oregon couldn't make a disappointing brew if they tried. Fresh Squeezed IPA is damn near perfection in a 12oz. bottle. HUGE hop flavor that's perfectly balanced by malt presence, a mild mouthfeel that keeps this quaffable even in the heat of summer, and an ABV under 7%, which certainly makes this relatively sessionable and perfect for gameday or BBQs! If I were wearing a hat right now, I'd be tipping it to Deschutes. Truly a great beer.

Best By 9/27/14, so probably bottled 3/27. Aged.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into the only available vessel, a clean paper cup.

a: Clear copper with a lot of offwhite foam head which receded to surface foam and dense lacing. Right, on the sides of the cup.

s: Nada.

t: Banana under a medium hop bite. Fresh squeezed banana. Bitterness lingers on the tingue.

m: Medium with good body.

o: Apparently the age on this did freaky things to the flavor. Blindfolded, I might guess this was Wells' Banana beer. I bought two bottles to try since Deschutes is not usually carried by any store on the East Coast I know of. I'll save the other bottle to drink from a proper glass to see if the taste is different.

Appearance: Amber, almost orange glass holds a half finger of dirty white foam. Good clarity with tiny streams of carbonation.

Smell: Hops are bright and citric but not overwhelming and well supported by a sweet toffee malt.

Taste: While the hops are full flavor they are well balanced by the clean base of barley. It seems a bit light for an IPA but brings a big taste, and what is there is excellent.

Mouthfeel: A bit frothy, firm carbonation, medium body, slightly oily finish.

Overall: Great stuff! Showcases the hops without huge bittering, heavy enough to support the main show while light enough to think about a second.

12oz single bottle, nice to see another IPA from this brewery make it north of the 49th parallel.

This beer pours a mildly hazy, medium orange brick amber hue, with three fat fingers of rocky, densely foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some random chunky and splattered lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.

It smells of semi-sweet orange and grapefruit juice, a further peach/apricot fruitiness, bready caramel malt, and some watery pine needle bitterness. The taste carries on with the big, robust hop fruitiness - mandarin orange, candied grapefruit, ripe peaches, and a hint of overripe mango - somewhat biscuity caramel malt, a bit of almost metallic herbal mint, and more bitter leafy, piney notes.

The bubbles are pretty low-key and innocuous in their simple burbling, the body a plain medium weight, and well smooth, a wee airy creaminess arising with the persistence of time. It finishes on the sweet side, more fruity than malty, but both duly represented, the heretofore balancing bitterness starting to wane.

Another tasty and affable IPA from Deschutes - the use of Citra and Mosaic hops seems to be complementary, the result being the obvious fruitiness run rampant. All good, all good, this could very well be the go-to six-pack around here, as summer finally kicks it into gear.
