Chainbreaker White IPA
Deschutes Brewery, Oregon
---from bottle to pint glass---

I must preface with this short story. I ordered this beer out of straight curiosity at the Hilton Rosemont/O'Hare in Chicago. The bartender couldn't find his bottle opener (nor his brain, I assume), so I offered to open it with my personal bottle opener on my key chain. Well... this bottles cap broke my opener. So, my hopes are high!

Appearance
Pours seemingly water clear, but ends up an extremely foggy off white color with loads of sediment. Thick white head with decent lacing.

Smell
Smells funky... Sour wheat, almost. Light notes of citrus and flowers.

Taste
Immediately sweet followed by an intense, but delightful bitter. Tastes like carbonated grapefruit juice with hops. The wheat backbone holds this beer from being too 'fruity.' Oddly intriguing...

Mouth-feel
Very light, but lingering flavor. Incredibly smooth with a back end bitter that calls for another sip.

Overall
This is my first ever white IPA. I am very happy with this beer. Not your average Belgian.

Best by 10/20/14:

Pours clouded lemon-drop yellow with a fluffy white head. Trailing lacing sticks.

The smell is of wheat tang, orange peel, lemon, coriander and leafy notes.

The taste of sweettart mixes with spice and citric bitterness in the refreshing finish.

Creamy smooth, this is an enjoyable unique brew. Witbier meets American IPA, and it works!

Clear golden appearance in a pint glass, minimal head as served at a restaurant.
Taste is smooth and light. Belgian yeast prevalent but not overwhelming. Hops also on the light side. Smooth, refreshing, enjoyable. A decent offering, not great. A good fun session beer just in time for summer.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date. Being a "Wit" in a way the yeast was decanted in the glass.

LOOK: Turbid, yellow straw, nice head

SMELL: Fresh herbs, fruity, citric, yeast, bready, spice, hoppy

TASTE: Smooth, bitty, bitter, spicy, dry, yeast, fruity, citrus pith, bready, nutty, medicinal herbs, chalky finish

I love the whole concept of the style, sort of a mish-mash of styles but it works and works here as well. Worth a getting a sixer of it IMO.
