12 oz bottle, best by 11/03/12. served in pint glass, swirled to ensure haze, as per instructions on label. Peer pours an eery, lemony yellow, suggesting soda, not beer. Thick white head. Actually in the glass it looks like a giant lemon merengue pie. Considerable citrus hop / lemon aroma.

Flavor comes on strong with a hoppy edge, coriander, and fresh orange all at once. Carbonation is a little bit aggressive, but given all the adjuncts in here that may be necessary. This beer isn't, on the whole, particularly dry. For an IPA, it's actually sweet. But given that, as a combination of two inherantly incompatible styles, this beer is pretty successful. In particular the combination of natural orange in the beer and citrusy Cascade / Centennial works well.
I'm definitely not sick of it after 1 or 2, but it remains to be seen if I'll want another 6 pack when this one's gone.

"Belgian IPA" isn't really apt. There's Belgian Wit spicing, but there's no discernible Belgian yeast funk. This is just a Northwest Wit. And as all things Northwest should be, there are too many hops.

Bottle: a standard 355mL brown bottle with an okay label.

Appearance: pours a pale straw with a light haze, moderate carbonation visible. A one finger white head that drops to a thin cap. Looks okay.

Aroma: smells of yeast, wheat and grain. Some light citrus also. Pretty unexciting stuff.

Taste: some spice with wheat, lemon citrus and white pepper. Not bad, some tartness too.

Aftertaste: not a whole heap of hop bitterness, not sure where the 'IPA' comes from.

Mouth feel: lighter in body with a moderate spritzy carbonation.

Overall: an alright but overall completely overpriced brew. I wouldn't call it an IPA either - not very hop-orientated, more spice-driven. Too expensive and not interesting enough. Drinkable.

I am not sure I ever had a white IPA from a bottle before. I prefer my beer to come from a tap over the bottle in general. But this Chainbreaker White was a nice change from my usual selection of beers. While I am not a big fan of fruit favors in beer, I liked this beer...maybe I was just thirsty and maybe the nice finish let me appreciate the slight fruity flavors.

A: yellow. Hazy. Thin head.
S: citrus. Lemon.
T: lemon peal. Light malt. Weird bittering mixed with funky Belgian yeast.
M: fizzy. Funky. The flavor interrupts the mouthfeel. Medium-light body coupled with weird flavor.
O: smells great. Taste not so great. Too bitter tied to the phenolics. Doesn't pair.

a: Hazy pale yellow; pours with a medium sized, lightly sticky head.

s: Classic wit with more pronounced citrus aromas. Plenty of clove as well.

t: Earhy citrus and bright, hoppy citrus work well together. The lingering hops clash with the clove finish though.

m: Full bodied and chewy.

o: Not bad, but I'd rather have a wit followed by an IPA, than have them in the same glasd.
