12 oz bottle, best by 11/03/12. served in pint glass, swirled to ensure haze, as per instructions on label. Peer pours an eery, lemony yellow, suggesting soda, not beer. Thick white head. Actually in the glass it looks like a giant lemon merengue pie. Considerable citrus hop / lemon aroma.
Flavor comes on strong with a hoppy edge, coriander, and fresh orange all at once. Carbonation is a little bit aggressive, but given all the adjuncts in here that may be necessary. This beer isn't, on the whole, particularly dry. For an IPA, it's actually sweet. But given that, as a combination of two inherantly incompatible styles, this beer is pretty successful. In particular the combination of natural orange in the beer and citrusy Cascade / Centennial works well.
I'm definitely not sick of it after 1 or 2, but it remains to be seen if I'll want another 6 pack when this one's gone.
"Belgian IPA" isn't really apt. There's Belgian Wit spicing, but there's no discernible Belgian yeast funk. This is just a Northwest Wit. And as all things Northwest should be, there are too many hops.
