12oz bottle into tulip snifter.
best by : 06/22/12

Pours a hazy, bright yellow with a foamy, fizzy white head.

Lemony citrus, with some wheat, coriander and Belgian yeast notes. Well balanced.

Tart lemony hops, with a pleasant wheat and Belgian yeast backing.

Medium body with scrubbing, active carbonation.

A refreshing beer, definitely could see enjoying a couple of these on a warm summer day. I was happy to see that the coriander and Belgian yeast did not become too dominant.

Been a WHILE since I did a review. Picked up a six pack of this at the store, lets give it a try.
A- Looks like a stereotypical belgian wit. The fizzy head doesn't stay long, but there is lacing.
S- Hint's of hops and belgian yeast, but also some citrus smells.
T- Pretty bland, some hops and citrus flavors.
M- Almost fizzy, light and tingly.
O- A nice spring/ summer sipper. Might not fit the IPA moniker, but it is refreshing and tasty. Also, Bottle says 5.6% ABV rather that the 5.1 noted above.

Bottle says best by 6/29/12.

Appearance: Pours a bright and very hazy yellow. One finger of head diminishes rapidly. Little lacing on the glass.

Smell: Smells funky with a strong yeasty aroma. Wheat and light lemon scent round this one out. Hop aromas are noticeably absent.

Taste: Sweet with a heavy dose of wheat and lemon flavor. Crisp and spicy remind me of a Belgian witbier. Hop presence is minimal.

Mouthfeel: Light and easy to drink. A beer to drink on a warm day.

Overall: While I liked the sound of it, this beer didn't seem to choose a direction to go in as far as style goes. It felt like a not fully integrated mixture of APA, witbier, and hefe at times. Still is worth a go and refreshing.

Pours a diaphanous light yellow ale with a sheet of white foam and spotty lace throughout. Phenols, coriander, citric hops, slightly plastic. Flavor is sweet and wheaty with a good bitterness up front and an interesting citric rind character on the finish with a witbier taste. Full bodied with hi carb and a dry finish. A decent beer, and one of the more approachable Belgo style IPA's I've had. Probably won't be found buying this one too often however.

Chainbreaker 12oz, poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint. Best Before 6-28-12.

A: Hazy yellow gold, fluffy white head.

S: Lots of piney, citrusy hops, semi-pungent, wheat, lemon, definite funk (almost B.O.), Belgian yeast esters, lots of Wit beer characteristics...fruity, rotting pear, fruit flesh.

T: Lemon zest, citrus pith, wheat and malt, bready...earthy grass, funk, Belgian yeast notes, piney hops contribute as well...fruity notes are more buried here but still present.

MF: Light to moderate bitterness, soft clingy dryness, light to medium body.

O: What I would expect from a Deschutes Belgian/White IPA. More hops would be welcome, but overall its still a refreshing and drinkable beer.

Picked up a 6'er tonight at the 16th St. Albertsons... Paid about $8.50... Poured into a tall goblet... 2 finger white head has great retention and lacing... the brew is hazed pale yellow... maybe a touch darker than a standard witbier, but I could be imagining things.

Nose is I guess what I was expecting... a citrus hopped witbier... slight lemon note and maybe some orange peel.... Coriander? I think, but it may get lost in the light hoppiness.

Definitely getting coriander on the palate... the spicing brings this back into the witbier realm for me... barely enough bitterness to put this in IPA land... light hoppiness mid palate and on to the finish... a bit of yeasty phenols .. with warmth, the wheat comes out a bit more and adds a nice layer of complexity..

Body is light/medium with a good carbonation.. very very drinkable.

4/3.5/3.5/3.5/4.5

This brew should not be released so early... this is a summer brew.... a summer stunner... and should be in cans ;-)

I rarely buy witbiers as most domestic examples seem to balanced toward the spices or are too light body... this brew is perfect for summer sipping and lawn work.... I will make sure my wife (who loves wits) gets a bottle or two... I bet she has a new favorite.

Appearance: Pours a hazy wit/hefe golden straw color. Perfectly white head has decent retention and good lacing.

Smell: Up front is some hefe like aroma with a dry yeasty finish on the nose. Not much hops aroma, very subdued.

Taste: More hop presence than on the nose. Clove/gum like taste. Hops are earthy.

Mouthfeel: Very light and effervescent. Good amount of carbonation.

Overall: This is a nice drinkable IPA that arrives just in time for summer. I have a feeling that when it gets hot outside this will become one extremely popular beer around the pacific northwest.

12 oz bottle poured into Dogfish Head tulip pint glass

A- Poured hazy golden with a 2 finger white head. Not much lacing.

S- Getting bubble gum and lemon zest.

T- Taste follows nose. Getting bubble gum, lemon zest, and possibly coriander. Refreshing taste, but not too complex. Could be a bit more hoppy.

M- Mouthfeel is light and smooth. Quick drinker. Perfect for a hot summer day.

O- Pretty good, but expected a bit more from Deschutes. Could be hoppier, but possibly this is exactly what they were going for. I could see this being very refreshing on a hot day in the summer. It is also nice to see Deschutes kicking out a new brew. Too bad some of their pub only beers are not in bottles.

On tap into an American pint glass @ the Wingdome, Greenwood, Seattle.

Pours a pale hazy lemon yellow w/ some white foam.

Aroma is bubble gum, spice, lemon, pepper, and a vague, subtle soapy smell.

Taste follows nose. Belgian yeast gives a weird bubblegum flavor along w/ corianer, lemon, & bitter hops.

Overall not a favorite, reminds me a lot of Conflux.

appearance - clear, pale yellow, not much head or retention

smell - citrus and yeast esque notes

taste - light flavored, a bit sweet, a bit citrusy, a bit bready

mouthfeel - light, well carbonated, slightly dry

overall - i expected a little more from deschutes on this one, it's almost like their version of blue moon, there are some decent citrus hop notes and it's probably a decent summer session beer but not an amazing brew

On-tap at Old Chicago's. Served to standard pint glass. The beer arrives a hazy golden/yellow that is fairly light. A 1/2 finger white head with some retention and lacing. A pleasant blend of citrus and spice on the nose with a hint of belgian yeast. Orange, coriander, lemon, pepper. Nice. The tastes again follows the nose with the citrus flavors and a more pronounced spice. Tangy almost in flavor with a medium bitterness. Finishes crisp and clean. Medium bodied with good carbonation. As I am not a huge fan of the Belgian IPAs I found this beer to be a good representation that was easy to drink and didn't overdo any of the flavors or characteristics and as such was pleasantly surprised. I would not hesitate in ordering another.

On tap served in a pint glass

A - Hazy orange with a one finger white head. Minimal head retention and minimal lacing

S - Very crisp Pils, citrus grapefruit and wheat scents. Also coriander spiciness and orange and apricot smells.

T - Follows the scent except that wheat and orange dominate with a bit of spiciness in the back palate to finish the taste.

O - A pretty good Whitbier, pretty crisp, but not extraordinarily standout. A little above average for the style, and I would get this again since I love whitbiers.

true pint at Venti’s Taproom. S.Commercial,Salem. $3.75 ( happy hour) Named "Belgian White IPA. Very hazy yellow coloured beer, unusual, with a nice thick white head. Nice tart, spicy, banana aromas, together with a hint of resiny hop..again unusual but nice. Very spicy, peppery yeast driven taste to begin then a firm resiny hoppiness takes hold. Good mouthfeel to this one nicely carbonated and long after tastes. Overall an unusual and hard to categorize beer, but i enjoyed.
