4/5  rDev +9.9%
look: 3.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

Appearance- Pours a hazy pale nectar with a finger of bubbly white head.

Smell- belgian yeast, coriander, orange peel, wheat,

Taste- Starts with the yeast and orange peel followed by the coriander and wheat. Taste is tangy and tart at the start, then finishes with light bitterness.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall- An enjoyable Belgian IPA. I like the fact that the flavours are cohesive and don't compete with one another. Definitely would suit for a hot summer day.

A: Poured from bottle into imperial pint glass. Has a hazy yellow color. Medium amount of white head. Average amount of carbonation with some bubbles along bottom of the glass. Looks like carbonated lemonade. Decent lacing, not a lot but definitely there.

S: Strong hop smell, and smells bitter. Not surprising since it is an IPA. Slightly sweet smell. Nothing else really stands out here.

T: Beginning of sip is surprising to me. It is sweet with a citrus-y tone to it. Tastes of lemons and grass. Aftertaste is bitter, maybe a little more bitter than I would like considering how pleasant the initial sip is.

M: Mouth feel is quite pleasant. Has a good amount of carbonation that allows the flavor to dissipate as it flows through your mouth. A little less heavy than a typical IPA, but it is a 'white' IPA so maybe this is expected. Regardless, the lightness if a nice tough to me.

O: This is the first 'white' IPA that I have tried. To me it was a great success. It is like the more common summer-shandy but really seems like a beer that is sweet instead of a lemonade trying to be a beer. For hardcore IPA lovers this may not be as robust as you are looking for. But for someones looking for a lighter side of the IPA spectrum that will brighten up your pallet this is a great route. I foresee picking up more of this in the summer time.

Appearance-hazy yellow, like lemon-aid. Not much head retention. Reminds me of the shandy.

Smell-You really smell the hops and not much else. I love the smell of hops, so I like it.

Taste-I noticed a pine cone type of taste with hints of citrus and grapefruit. Very light bodied. The hops flavor really comes through without much of a flavor added by the wheat grain, except a touch of sweetness. In this way you could say that the hops is overpowering the grain flavor, which in an IPA you try to keep in balance, but for something different, I like it. As far as I know, this is a blend of two very different styles. The result is a nice brew, especially for a hot summer day.

Mouthfeel-has a good mouthfeel, like an IPA does but a little less so.

Overall-I like it. It would be great on a hot day after mowing the lawn. Has a lighter feel than a traditional IPA. Easy drinking and tastes good. A great summer weekend beer while grilling out. Would go well with grilled fish with a bit of lemon. Makes me wish it was summer.

Pure and bright one-finger white head; decent retention. An interesting cloudy, light yellowish lemonade appearance. A unique look. Citrus & hoppy aroma. Tart orange and spices, evergreen. Medium carbonation. A surprising and refreshing brew made for a hot summer day. Glad I picked one up.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: Pours a sour lemon juice yellow…very spring-like, looks like it’s gonna be one floral IPA…it looks light and delicate…some head did form when I poured it, but not much remains, can’t really even call that a consistent layer…for it’s light color, it’s real hazy, I can barely see my finger through the glass…it’s got an interesting color, but the lack of head is a detriment…(3.5/5)

Smell: Light, floral, lemon, banana…fresh, lively, and light…it’s like a spring breeze running through a daisy field…definitely has Belgian style qualities, I’m catching hints of yeast, pepper, tropical fruits, coriander, grass, bubblegum…it’s nice, different and refreshing…(4/5)

Taste: Mildly sour, citrus zesty, yeasty (aka noticeable damp forest/mushroom-like funkiness), floral, grassy, very lively…tons of flavors going on…sweet bready malts, coriander and a touch of lemon peel resin bitterness…YUM! (4/5)

Mouthfeel: Light body, medium carbonation (very soft feel)…it does fluff up a bit on my palate spreading lemony resinous bitterness…it’s light, refreshing, crisp…very light for something considered an IPA, but it definitely works here…(4.25/5)

Overall: This is a wonderful variation to the IPA…I wasn’t sure if I would really enjoy a “white” IPA, but this is good, real good…the coriander and yeast don’t over do it here, only enhance and compliment…the flavor is super drinkable and refreshing, this is the perfect summertime brew…I could drink several of these while watching a day game at Wrigley Field or hanging out on the disc golf course over at Hudson Mills and be very happy…this brew came to me highly recommended and now I pass it on to you…if you haven’t tried this uniquely delicious brew yet, now is the time…life is to short to be withholding to yourself…(4.25/5)

pours out a cloudy and hazy yellow lemon sun colour with a chunky snow white head. wispy lace adorns the glass as i sip. delectable aroma of coriander spice and grassy, hoppy spice. some sweet maltiness and sugar type aromas compliment greatly. the flavour profile is light pale maltiness paired with with some citrus infused wheat notes. coriander spice melds well with the belgian yeast tones and pepper notes. nice NW hop addition really rounds thing out nicely. everything compliments each other in a thirst quenching finish. medium bodied. quenching mouthfeel. incredible drinkability.

overall i'm impressed with this style bending offering. this is going to be a go to quaffer come summer time. it's got sunshine and yardwork written all over it. yummy stuff here!!

Thanks Greg!!

Appearance. Pours a hazy straw colour with a finger of white head.

Smell. Light Belgian yeast, floral hops and citrus, sweet wheat.

Taste. Big citrusy, grassy hops with some Belgian yeast, a bit of light grains and sweet wheat, and a little tropical fruit.

Mouthfeel. On the lower side of medium bodied with medium-strong carbonation.

Overall. Loaded with hops and still fruity and refreshing. I wouldn't refuse another ...and as luck would have it, I won't have to thanks to the second bottle from Greg. Cheers dude!

BBD 3-14-13. Had this on tap before & it didn't really thrill me, let's hop for better in the bottled version

Pours an effervescent pale straw color with a pinky of pearl white head. Slight hazing, above average head retention & lacing

S: Coriander, lemongrass, white pepper, faint tartness

T: Follows the nose, a touch of peppery yeastyness & some wheat-breadyness & lemon tartness up front. White pepper & faint grapefruit peels as this warms, slight yeasty/peppery bite. Finishes semi-crisp, citrussy & with little white pepper & wheat tartness

MF: Light/medium bodied, slight carbonation, good balance

Fairly refreshing, I could do this in warm weather, but otherwise I could take it or leave it. More like a Wit/IPA hybrid to me

interesting smell... not too pleasant... malty, minty, lemony,

looks thick... almost non transparent... orangy white (if that makes any sense)

the taste leaves a lot to be desired.. i'm not a fan of when breweries attempt to mix styles and don't quite get the balance... i'm not sure what this is supposed to be...
it's clean and watery.. not much taste - you're smelling a hef, but tasting something totally different...

i'm going to offer this one to my wife...

A: Golden and hazy with a white frothy head that dissipates slowly.

S: Belgain yeast aromatics, i mostly get green apple and some tropical fruits.

T: Somewhat like a wit, not much hop bitterness coming through just some flavor at the end.

M: Great mouthfeel, but not for an ipa. I prefer my ipas on the dry side.

O: This was a delightful drinkable beer. Probably one of the better interpretations of a white ipa ive had. But there are just some things id like to see different to make this one a home run for me.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

All those bicycle enthusiasts in the City must be pleased with another bike-referencing brew on the shelves. Anyway, this stuff pours a lightly-hazy pale straw topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises light wheat, leek, and light lemongrass. The taste brings in more of the same, though the leek is thankfully absent, replaced by a good dose of lemon zest, light coriander and grass. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a nice little beer, but one that seems more like a slightly grassy wit than an actual BIPA. It ain't bad, but it's pretty forgettable.

Pours out a slightly cloudy yellow liquid with very little suds that are attaching themselves to the side of the glass.
Smell is mostly spice, yeast ,grass and lemon pledge with a hop burn to the nose at the end.
Taste is sweet at first with some spices like allspice and pepper thrown in along with the sugar. Kind of weak in the flavor dept. but quite quaffable.
Very clean on the palate but there is nothing left and there at least should be some stickyness.
Overall this is a great lawnmower beer that you can chug huge volumes down the hatch. This is less of an IPA and more of a belgian wit.

My roommate brought these home and let me try one, so thanks for that Tom. 12oz brown bottle with a freshness date of 05/09/13 located right above the bar code.

The beer poured a cloudy pale yellow color with a 2-finger white head that lasted a few minutes before dissipating to a thin rim. There was lots of lacing, but it didn't stick to the glass. Instead, it formed lots of splotchy circles that slid back into the liquid rather than stick to the sides.

Big fruity and citrusy hop aroma. Also picking up wheat and some coriander spice.

Delicious, although I will have to admit it tastes more like a Belgian wit than an IPA. Orange/grapefruit flavors blend well with the Belgian yeast. There is also a strong wheat presence with a touch of coriander spiciness. Not that bitter for an IPA, but not devoid of bitterness either.

Light and refreshing with low to moderate carbonation.

Another winner from Deschuttes. It goes down easy and is a good thirst quencher.

Poured from a 355ml bottle. Pours a cloudy whitish-yellow. The nose offers up wheaty, lemony, floral/herbaceous notes. It's very fresh and bright smelling. A buddy brought over a 6pack of 12oz beers the other day. Since I got the gout about 10 months ago, I've had little to no beer, so this is a rare occasion and a new review for me in a almost a year.

Nice white colored floaty head after a standard pour into a Rodenbach Grand Cru tulip. Cloudy and light yellow corn in color. Good retention and lacing.

Nose is very Belgian with a strong presence of Belgian yeast in addition to white pepper and clove. There is a nice backing of floral hops and a malty presence as well to add balance and complexity. Some white grape and other fruity notes as well, perhaps mango.

The taste confirms what my nose predicted. This one is more Belgian than IPA to me.

Nice and creamy in the mouth with a good medium body. Nice level of carbonation as well.

Overall, a good beer, but I was expecting more of a hop presence from Deschutes, especially since IPA is in the title. There are better offerings of a similar profile out there, but still a pretty good beer nonetheless.

A- This beer pours a hazy pale lemon yellow body with a thick white head that sticks to the glass with each sip. There is a gentle carbonation that glides out of the hazy body to the surface.

S- The paper green hops has some pithy unripe tropical fruit aromas and a club soda yeast ester in the finish.

T- The bright wit yeast flavor has some orange zest and bread dough qualities with a green citrus pith hint and some dry coriander spice in the finish. There is some tropical fruit notes in the hops that linger for a short bit after the finish. There is some tangerine sweetness in the orange zest as it opens u and some club soda flavor in the yeast character.

M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel and a gentle little fizz with no alcohol heat.

O- This beer is a nice bright hoppy beer with lots of depth both in the hops and in the yeast/spice characteristics that support it, but at the same time it is very sessionable.

My first thought, is this beer looks like a Wit. Matte colored head about one finger in thickness. Thin layer of foam last for most of twelve ounces. Hazey yet bright banana peel and hay color. Little bubbling.

Hoppy citrus, a little clove, bubblegum, and banana all take up space in this aroma. Smells like a Wit with American hops. Cool!

Dry, chalky palate with a good body. Dry bananas and sweet, lightly toasted wheat intermingle with citrusy and earthy hop flavors. This beer is great and easy and fun to drink.

A: Pours a very unique cloudy, pale yellow/white color that has a bit of transparency to it. A two finger white head forms and sticks all the way down the glass. Rings of lace are left behind.
S: Phenolic spice up front, then a bit of clove on the nose. A bit musky as well. The yeast is very apparent here. Followed by fresh cut grass, floral, and citrus hops.
T: Follows the nose with the phenolic and spicy yeast up front. Slightly musky. The hops come in next. Grassy, floral, and citrus again. Kind of a powdery aspirin flavor/feel in the finish.
M/D: A medium body and crisp carbonation. Refreshing, very effervescent and dry. So easy and enjoyable to drink. The bottle and six pack will be gone in no time.

I like this. I typically hate the "Belgian IPA" label because like most of these new style breweries don't know what the style is. I am not going to claim that I know what the style is either, though this is close to what I have in mind. Regardless, just a very enjoyable beer to drink.

Bottle into tulip pint.

Very bubbly... Effervescent hazy yellow body looks like unfiltered, fresh-squeezed lemonade. Huge 2.5 finger white head is fluffy and gorgeous. Decent lacing. Decent retention.

Some light citrusy notes waft up with a grainy malt note and some spices-- like coriander or grains of paradise.
This is absolutely meant to be a slightly more hopped up Belgian white ale, not a real ipa, and not even a Belgian pale ale.

This is probably the most accessible of the Deschutes beers I've tried-- this would certainly have mass appeal among BMC drinkers.... And to be fair, it has a vibe that makes me think it would be quite refreshing in the summer.

Overall-- not the best beer I have had, but I can see why they were going for... And I am probably not who they wanted to impress with this one.

12oz bottle poured into tulip glass

Poured from a bottle into a tulip

A – Pours a bright hazy yellow with a big fluffy bright white head. The head settles and leaves lacing down the glass.

S – Lemon, coriander. Belgian yeast. Bright yeasty goodness, a little soapy but not in a bad way.

T – Nice and fruity, primarily lemon and orange, some grapefruit. A bit of light bready malt comes through. There is a nice bitterness from the hops, though this is hardly a hoppy beer.

M – Light-Medium body, very well carbonated. Finish is dry and fairly long lasting. This is certainly refreshing.

O – I like this take on the style, it's got good character and complexities to it. Nice crisp and refreshing, with a hint of a hop kick. This is a solid brew.

Poured from the bottle into a Deschutes pint I picked up at the Portland pub 2 years ago. Still one of my favorite breweries.

Pours a hazy yellow, with a large white head that leaves great white lacing. Score! Belgian yeast are awesome, as are most continental yeasts. English yeasts can go to hell!

Smell is of soft wheat, fresh, citrusy and fruity hops. Could be better, could be stronger.

Taste is beautiful, creamy wheat with super fresh, fruity hops. Complements eachother perfectly. What an amazing beer. This will be my go to beer for sessioning from now on.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip

A- pours a hazy very pale straw color, a small fizzy white head appears and quickly dissipates, virtually no lacing, kinda looks more like a berliner weisse than a belgian ipa

S- the aromas have me a little more hopeful, strong belgian yeast nose, slightly malty with a little bit of wheat mixed in, if there's any hop in the nose it's barely there

T- staying consistent, the flavors are lacking, you get a little bit of the fruitiness of the belgian yeast followed by a big bitter hop hit, a little grainy and bready, not really what you'd want out of belgian ipa

M- very thin body, almost a little watery, carbonation is alright, the hops really go after your tastebuds, finishes fairly dry

O- fairly disappointed with this one, not a very good representation of the style, not that it's a terrible beer by any means it's just not a great belgian ipa, there are better examples out there, probably won't buy this one again

Pours clear straw, agitated the bottle and deposited the rest of the yeast to make for an opaque straw with a soapy one finger head. Nice rings of lacing but pretty sub par retention.

Remarkably like any other wit beer, orange peel, lemon grass, coriander and uplifting Belgian yeast. Lack of hop presence is concerning.

Wheat is very noticeable in the forefront providing some thin grain and a lemon tea and a late zip that evolves into some dull stingy acidity and bitterness on the tail end. Coriander is noticable, very soapy and powdery but not much wit depth beyond that. Scrubs dry.

Thin and a bit undercarbed leaving a slick feeling in the mouth. Decent drying.

Above average to average score if this were a witbeer but the lack of obvious hop features in this beer were a serious let down. Belgian yeast, spices and lemony wheat take center stage here. Nicely crafted but give me my hops please!

Appearance- poured into a tilted glass without agitating the yeast at the end. The result was hardly any head with minimal lacing. You feel like you're pouring a ginger beer for e first half glass. Very much a WHITE IPA but with some Heff haze.

Smell- citrus right off the bat with some floral not far behind. Lemony earth tones if you wait for the full effect.

Taste- the complement of both worlds. Not really hoppy at all but then again a more aggressive Heff. The wheat comes out more yet the hops rein back the mild. Still has citrusy tones all the while.

Mouthfeel- this is where the unique style gets you. As you wait for the lingering wheat characteristics the IPA lets it stop short.

Overall- I'd get this again as a nice "palate-cleaning" beer. Not really for a session.
