Excited to try this one. Mildly let down by the base Black Butte each time I tried it, here goes to see if a specialty works better for me.
The pour is dark black, sticky, not much carbonation or head. Cleaves to the glass.
Aromatically, man, this is a goulash of a beer. Orange. Dark Chocolate. Smoke. Bourbon. Nuts. Roast. Pretty much everything short of cat's ass. But it all comes together quite nicely to create an odd, citrus-led symphony.
Taste, reminds me of those weird Droste chocolate oranges I had in Europe when I was a kid. Upon further review I decided those things weren't very good. Not the case with Black Butte. Fruit beer, meet porter. Quite good.
Mouthfeel was nice and thick, and nearly uncarbonated, but also a little bit chalky.
Final verdict, damn good beer, one of the better and more daring porters I've ever had.
