Poured from a 22oz, waxed-sealed bottle into a Gouden Carolus chalice.
A - Light honey color. Off-white head leaves decent lacing.
S - Sweet plums and Piloncillo (mexican brown sugar), a little band-aid, and a little alcohol.
T - The sweet brown sugar hits first, then mellows (very smoothly) to the plums and a little licorice, then some nice Belgian funk to end. Even though I smelled a little alcohol in the nose, it is very well hidden. Taste is really smooth and well balanced.
M - Medium carbonation. Medium mouthfeel. It really washes very well over the palate without feeling too thick.
D - Medium. The mouthfeel, sweetness, and complexity makes you want to take your time.
Really good beer. Great dessert beer after a good meal or with a good cigar. Lots of layers and very well balanced.

Amazing. Belgian yeast (actually a pretty light touch) along with some strong sweetness from the malt. Sweet like a good barleywine would be, a sweetness that seems totally natural in this context. Most beers that are in the style don't choose to go so sweet, but for this beer it really, really works. Absolutely my new favorite.
