Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Like fresh powder, it’s a seize-the-moment thing. This year we've chased down Virgil Gamache Farms' famed Amarillo hops. At harvest, we rush the hops from the vine to our kettles to ensure we capture the purest, juiciest essence of the hop flower in every beer. Enjoy the bright, bold aroma and flavor that comes but once a year.

Pours into an imperial pint glass a dull lighter golden with a very well defined almost creamy-like sticky white head, great definition and lacing from the top.Floral and citric notes in the nose along with some mint, faint sweet booze is dtected as well.Flavors of hop complexity first off I get some sweet onion and mango with lesser pine underneath,a sweet biscuit base along with some boozy sweetness in the finish, but not overly sweet.Wow alot of subtle complexities here makes for a very good "big" IPA,well done.

22 oz bottle, best by 12/27/12. Pours clear light straw yellow with a medium frothy white head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is grainy, slightly vegetal, malts and grassy metallic hops.

The flavor is sweet vegetal biscuity malts with a good sized grassy (slightly minty) bitterness in the finish. There's a bit of a charred hop aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, not my cup of tea. Vegetal, biscuity malts with grassy hops.

Deschutes Brewery - Chasin' Freshies [Fresh Hop IPA] (220z ---> Stemless Wine Glass : 7.4 ABV)

My first fresh hopped IPA, because I never seem to catch Stone's "Enjoy By" at any of my local stores/taphouses... It poured a beautiful goldenrod yellow and a rocky, two inch head rose quickly, but has since faded to a solid retentive cap with some spotty lacing left behind... Upon the nose are prominent litchi and grapefruit notes, I had to double check and make sure I wasn't inhaling a Sauv Blanc for a moment there!! A mild wheat scent is hidden beneath those, but it's overall very citrus forward... First taste is more citrus notes, but lighter than what was detected in the aromas... Midway through some earthy hop tastes come through, with a a hint of spice to accompany it and give it some depth... The finish taste much more intense, comparable to the nose, and is the smoothest I've ever had from an IPA - but I'm sure this is entirely due to the Fresh Hop aspect of the brewing process... It's still a full hoppy finish, but lacks the bitterness that usually partners hops, again I accredit this to the fashion with which it was procured... The mouthfeel for the brew is great, as it's light enough to let the flavors assume the lead role, but full enough to carry the flavors all the way through each sip... Overall this brew is very well crafted and hits many notes that aren't traditionally present in standard IPA's, which was a welcome change... Another good brew - Cheers!!

Slight white head but leaves good lacing. Light yellow color. Smells like pot. Taste like a grapefruit session ipa almost like a white. Lighter body but medium carbonation with slight bit of creaminess. Great different ipa.
