Notes/Commercial Description:
Like fresh powder, it’s a seize-the-moment thing. This year we've chased down Virgil Gamache Farms' famed Amarillo hops. At harvest, we rush the hops from the vine to our kettles to ensure we capture the purest, juiciest essence of the hop flower in every beer. Enjoy the bright, bold aroma and flavor that comes but once a year.

as i sit here and drink my pliny, just after having a bottle of chasing freshies 2013, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my chasin freshies...more than my pliny. i love and appreciate a very good/hoppy beer, but found that the chasin freshies beer was exactly that...very fresh. pliny is a double ipa and still an incredibly good beer but this chasin freshies beer is really good. i highly recommend.

Upon pouring the color is very striking, a clear straw like a wheat beer. A small finger high head with decent retention and clumpy lacing left behind.

Citrus and grassy fresh hops, bright lemon zest, pine, floral with some yeast presence and mild grains.

Mild lager grain bill, a bit of raw husks, but otherwise clean and bready beneath a grapefruit citrus and to a lesser extent orange pith fresh hop flavor. Moderate bitterness, drying makes the finish soapy but overall clean.

Easily downable body, maybe a bit too thin, the carbonation could do more to make this beer as bright as the hops in it. Alcohol well hidden.

Better than most of the other Deschutes IPA releases over the course of time but I came to expect more hop flavor from a fresh hop beer. I was impressed with the grain bill chosen as it is perfect for being unassuming and letting the hops shine through.

Appearance: Light yellow, huge head.

Smell: Citrus rinds, lemon.

Taste: Sweet lemony taste, like lemonheads candy. Mild bitterness, very tasty and interesting.

Overall: Picked up a bomber to try and I was very impressed. I got a lot of sweetened lemon taste from this, which is quite different than the usual IPA. Very interesting, I'll have to search out another bottle while it is still fresh.

Drunk straight out of the bomber. Picked it up at Whole Foods to have with dinner there.

Nice crisp flavor, refreshing. The Amarillo hops really add a nice kick to this beer. I have always liked Deschutes and this is my new favorite of theirs.

I'm glad I picked up two.
