Notes/Commercial Description:
Like fresh powder, it’s a seize-the-moment thing. This year we've chased down Virgil Gamache Farms' famed Amarillo hops. At harvest, we rush the hops from the vine to our kettles to ensure we capture the purest, juiciest essence of the hop flower in every beer. Enjoy the bright, bold aroma and flavor that comes but once a year.

Pours into an imperial pint glass a dull lighter golden with a very well defined almost creamy-like sticky white head, great definition and lacing from the top.Floral and citric notes in the nose along with some mint, faint sweet booze is dtected as well.Flavors of hop complexity first off I get some sweet onion and mango with lesser pine underneath,a sweet biscuit base along with some boozy sweetness in the finish, but not overly sweet.Wow alot of subtle complexities here makes for a very good "big" IPA,well done.

Appearance - Very clear with an incredibly light color. The lack of hop haze was surprising.
Smell- There is a definite hop smell. If we drank this when it was actually fresh it might have been a stronger hop aroma.
Taste- For the amount of hop flavor and aroma, there is not much bitterness, which was refreshing. There is a bit more bitter taste at the end
Mouthfeel- There is a light mouthfeel and it lingers for a short time. Very fitting for the style.
Overall- This beer does not taste like a 7.4%a and it's very drinkable.

Poured into a New Belgium globe glass.

The beer is a hazy apricot color. A white bubbly head recedes to a heavy film. Light lacing.

The aroma is very piny, with apricot and peach sweetness.

The taste is like the aroma but with sprucy wood coming in.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied.

Overall, very clean, piny, and just enough fruitiness to add balance.

2013 Amarillo Hops.
Pours two and half fingers of head on a fairly clear light straw colored body.
The aroma is wonderful. Lots of lemon, pine and tropical fruit upfront with honey in the background and at the end.
The taste is on the lighter side, but still flavorful. Mild to moderate pine bitterness with some honeysuckle sweetness middle to end.
The texture has a little fizz and crisp with moderate carbonation.
Great aroma and a nicely balanced flavor. Winner.

22oz bomber purchased at Huckleberry’s in Spokane for $5.49. According to the label, this is best by 12/18/13, so it should still be good.

Poured a lemony-looking pale shade of gold, with a rocky, bone-white head that hung around for a while and left quite a bit of lace. Apart from a little bit of chill haze, it looked very good.

Citrusy hop aroma was featured, but not as much as I was expecting. There was also a fruity sweetness that reminded me of mangos in the background.

Bitterness, which was largely absent from the nose, made itself noted in the taste. There was also a citrus-like flavor, which was to be expected from a beer that featured Amarillo hops, but it wasn’t like the usual blast of grapefruit that I normally expect from that hop. There is some tropical fruit sweetness, but it seems to be paired up with a grassy, bitter hop flavor that might seem more at home in a pilsener.

The body was somewhere between light and medium. The mouthfeel is somewhat oily and coating.

“Featuring Amarillo hops” is what the label says, but it doesn’t explicitly state that this is a single hop beer. Judging by it’s flavor, I suspect other hops were used as well, and I’d like to know what they were. A unique experience. I liked it but I’m not sure I’d want more than one.
