appearance: Mostly opaque dark ruby. Some cola highlights around the edges. Nice thick tan head and lacing.
smell: Very nice, layered nose with lots going on. Something reminiscent of cola or a mild black licorice I suppose is a combination of the dates and figs. Cocoa is just behind. A really amazing nose.
taste: The taste lags behind the nose in complexity but makes up for it. It's rich balanced and cohesive. All the notes in the nose merge nicely. There's a hint of spicy heat in the finish.
overall: Aged this for a year and thankfully have a few more to enjoy in the future. Kudos Deschutes.
