This is a lovely pub located in Saltaire, West Yorkshire. The decor is predominantly wooden, the lighting subdued and the real log fires wonderfully warm in winter.
They have a very wide selection of beers including several hand pulled cask ales and european beers on draught. Old Peculiar and Landlord seem to be regulars, with about five other guest cask ales.
A local told me that this was one of the first pubs to open up in Saltaire, maybe 10 to 15 years ago. Aledgedly until then the local authorities would not allow a pub in Saltaire due to it's historical roots.

I guess the name says it all. This is a cracker and well worth the short journey out of Bradford, either by Public Bus or Train, both serve Shipley well. If you catch the train, make sure you get off at the Saltaire stop.
The downstairs is welcoming, warming and very friendly. A classic feeling to the interior, including a Gas Lit Lounge, a Real Fire and genuine old Breweriana, fool you into thinking that this place has been here for years. The name sounds almost medieval, but this was in fact once a Pet Shop, then it converted to a Beer Shop (Liquor Store). Later when it gained a full on-sales license, this allowed the transformation into a full blown Public House. Recently an upstairs has been finished and is now also open expanding room, which is much needed in this well frequented establishment.
A true Free House, with no ties to any Breweries, which allows it to sell a great range of Cask beers. It always has nine different Ales. Timothy Taylors Landlord is one of the regular beers, there is usually one other. This leaves about 6-7 Guest Beers on the other Wickets, which always include some rare offerings from around the UK. In addition to the Real Ales, it has Hoegaarden and Warsteiner on draft, as well as a Real Farmhouse Cider. In addition to the draft beers it has a small but excellent portfolio of Bottled Beers, predominantly Belgium. All this as well as a selection of Fruit Wines, something for everyone.
It advertises itself as No Juke Box, No Pub Quizzes, No Fruit Machines which neatly sums up its attitude. Its superb range of beverages and genuine atmosphere has earned it a consistent place in the national CAMRA Good Beer Guide since the late 90's, as well as several (local) Bradford CAMRA Pub of the Season Awards. I really miss places like this; for they are few, and far between.
Excellent *Highly* Recommended.
