Next door to the Corn Dolly, the Goldsborough originally benefited from being in the right place to maximize on a sympathy visit before, or after, the Corn Dolly. However, these days, it is well worth a visit in its own right.

A pleasant looking Pub that has seen some investment when it was first renovated. As you enter from the road, the raised floor of the Bar gives it nice views of an industrial Bradford.

Inside, the atmosphere is one of relaxation. A neat feature of the Goldsborough is its use of several very comfortable Sofas & Easy Chairs, which I enjoy. The L-shaped Bar is traditional in style, but the Big Screen TV is definitely not, but somehow, the latter never seems to dominate the Bar as often the sound is low, unless there is a major Sporting Event being televised. The entertainment is topped off with a rather good Juke-Box; individually controlled Speakers from behind the Bar also help those seeking a quiet Pint in the corners, to do so whilst not being labeled kill-joys.

A (much improved) Old Mill Bitter always seems to be on sale here, & can be referred to as the regular bitter here for the discerning drinker. Others stick with the Tetley Bitter, a national bland, err... brand Real Ale & so-so at the best of times. There is the Timothy Taylor’s Landlord on sale, but prices can be 5-10% higher than other locations in Bradford for this beer I found. Sells Hoegaarden as well as a Cider.

Unlike the Corn Dolly next door, the Goldsborough is strong on food, so we usually go here for some ‘snap’ & a beer, & line the stomach before we head to the Corn Dolly for some more Ale. The Menu is quite large & has some excellent Home Made classics that represent good value; the Meat Pies are great & very filling! No Food is served on Sundays though. The Pub always welcomes well-behaved Children. That & the strong affiliation with the local Football Team, Bradford City FC, make this place popular on Saturdays when Bradford is playing at home. There is a small outside area for drinking your Real Ale al-fresco on warmer days.

The Goldsborough is a good bar & worth a visit, but it has been inconsistent on occasions to be honest. Brilliant at times, then at others, a disappointment. However, recently it has changed ownership, & has returned to its regular consistency I hear, here’s hoping so, because sat in those comfy Sofas with a pint of Taylor’s Landlord in hand, I often never went to leave.
