re-review

Ive been coming here for a little while now and this place is just excellent.
The service is the best, they are very knowledgeable and treat me like family.
They always show me what's new in stock (they known I'm always behind the 8 ball when it comes to new releases so they try to help me out) that is hard to get.
Mike is currently adding on a bar to grab a drink to chill or for while you look at the selection.

Brawley's is not the biggest store, but they have the best selection I have seen in QC by FAR, and they always have fresh local beer which is a huge plus.

Brawley's receives high reviews because it is a great place to shop at, from staff to selection, you wont be disappointed. Check them out. (722 characters)

Great shop. I buy probably 80-85% of my beer here. With the addition of taps soon, it will be even better. Great crew. Always willing to provide recommendations and thoughts on the beers. My 6 year old loves coming here and getting free Brawley's stickers. (256 characters)

Recently moved back to Charlotte from Baltimore with an increased interest in the craft beer scene. The guys at Brawley's have fueled that interest and always have some time to talk beer and make recommendations. They'll even ask my opinion if I'm grabbing something they haven't had before. I stop in a couple of times a week to satisfy my craving for trying new brews and haven't run out of options yet. (405 characters)

This is a must stop, for me anytime I am in Charlotte. I have been able to make it here a couple of times and always walk out with a great collection to add to my stash. Amazing customer service and knowledge of the beers available in the store. If you are visiting the area make sure to make this one of your stops. (316 characters)

I had an excellent first visit to Brawley's during my trip to Charlotte last weekend. I was in town to visit some family on my wife's side and heard Event Horizon was being released in Charlotte the day I was coming into town. They had a 6 bottle limit when I walked in, but after chatting with the owner and explaining I was in town from Atlanta and hoping to purchase more for friends and trading partners, he generously allowed me to purchase a double allotment. They even pulled out two years worth of Lindley Park from the back for me to scoop as well. Excellent customer service & solid selection will make this a must stop for me on my next trip through town. Thanks guys! (679 characters)

this was our first visit to Charlotte and were told to stop here first. So glad we did!! Awesome start to the weekend! Great people with a great selection! We got to meet the owner and he was a really cool guy to us out-of-towners, giving us pointers for good deals, special finds, and growth ideas for their store (a patio and taproom). Can't wait to come back and see how their tap room takes off! (399 characters)

Was in Charlotte for business and found this place by searching on the BA website. From the outside this is not an impressive looking place but the treasure definitely lies within. Very small but packed to the brim with hop and malty goodness. Michael Brawley is a very personable (and knowledgeable) fella and I felt like I knew him all my life as we talked beer. I picked up the local beer I was searching for (OMB Copper) and Michael made some suggestions of other local stuff, of which one was simply outstanding, Noda Hop Drop and Roll IPA! Great selection of bombers as well and while I was there Michael told me they were constructing a bar area to serve beer in the future. If you are ever in the Charlotte area pay this place a visit. Definitely a place I wish were closer to me! (788 characters)

I was in town for work & needed some beer for the week. From the outside it doesn't look like much but the inside is packed full of great beer.
This is my 2nd time here and both employees that I dealt with were not only helpful, but also very interested in talking beer. When they heard the beers I was looking for & ones I was looking at, they both made suggestions of local beers and other rarities they had that aren't available to me in MI (444 characters)

I found this great bottle shop a friend was talking about during my travels convenient location to down town charlotte. Very knowledgeable owner and staff helpful to an out of towner on new beers to try and the local beers. Prices are reasonable and fair selection was bigger than expected and not just in local stuff but all variety import and craft.

Brawleys is a great spot to go every time I am in town and I would recommend to anyone try them 1st. (453 characters)

Parked the Penske in front of my new flat and made my way to Brawley's Beverage ASAP.

Atmosphere - Walk in and there are lots of great Belgians and other Europeans with rare american craft against the back wall and in the cooler. Great vibe.

Quality - No doubt the selection and quality of the beer are as good as it gets. Saw barrel aged old rasputin and plenty of Stone IRS as well as other rarities.

Service - I believe the main reason Brawley's is so highly rated is Mike himself. Great guy who is willing to talk to you. I even overheard him talking about a rare beer to his employee saying "give em one if they ask, and 2 if they are REAL nice". Sounds like he knows how to treat his regulars. He also knows how to treat new customers by giving me some free glassware of my choice (tripel karmeliet tulip and a wells banana bread slim for the lady) as well as some can coozys and stickers.

Selection - A vast selection with what I believe is the best European selection of brews regionally, saw plenty of great belgians and lots of Orkney brewing to boot. Not to mention plenty of fresh sculpin cans by the register.

Value - Fairly priced, the Sculpin was definitely more expensive than some competition but quite frankly I don't mind paying the extra dollar or two to know that my sculpin is fresh and my money is going directly back to the craft community.

Overall a great place and I shall return. (1,414 characters)

Great store with an outstanding selection! I certainly didn't expect them to have as much quality craft beer as they did. Knowledgable and helpful staff/owner as well! Great little place that I would not of known about it if wasn't for a helpful BA member. (256 characters)

I'm so pleased my brother took me here while I was in town visiting - what an awesome store! They had all kinds of amazing, hard to find favorites for the pickiest craft beer fan. Even better? They had w00tstout (sorry guys - I bought the last one!) Shane was working and he was super awesome and helpful. I'll definitely be checking this place out when I'm in town - Thanks for the great experience! (400 characters)

I've been going to Brawley's for a few years and IMHO, is the best beer store in CLT. Mike is nice & can talk beer all day. He's always got something fresh from local breweries. Check out the walk-in cooler for growlers & some kegs. I recommend checking it out if you're in Charlotte & probably get a free glass with your purchase. (331 characters)

I really enjoyed visiting this store. They had a great selection, especially of North Carolina's craft beers and lots of imported ones- some of which I've never seen before outside of this store. Amazing service, topped by letting me select a free glass of my choice since it was my first visit. Sort of a gas station type atmosphere, but a great selection. (357 characters)

The selection and options are amazing. The employees are always helpful, laid back, and beer savvy. It is hard for me to measure the value because they simply have items that I can't find anywhere else to compare against. They have keg service, a walk in cooler (for temperature control required beers brewed by the German Purity Laws), and refrigerated beverage shelving.

Top notch and this is from a cheap guy with very very high standards. I have not found a better selection period. (488 characters)

As you can see from past reviews, this place is fantastic. I'm from Pittsburgh, but always stop in at least once when I come to Charlotte to visit family. Or, in this case, if I'm passing through on the way to or from vacation.

Mike is awesome. Flat out. Incredibly genuine, friendly, and helpful. Same goes for "Mama" (who is not his wife, though she was flattered by that mistake). They're always ready to chat and are very welcoming. Also, love seeing little Piper running around. Love it. A dad that owns a bottle shop. She doesn't know how good she has it.

I come in to stock up on stuff that I would never find in Pittsburgh, and have never left disappointed. All I have to do is tell Mike what I'm looking for, and let him do the rest. He even managed to turn me on to sours, which I didn't think was possible. I get especially giddy when he goes in the back to pull out a beer that's not on the floor. Have yet to encounter that at any place in Pittsburgh. Also, the prices are INFINTELY better than what they are in Pennsylvania, which is all but stuck in the prohibition.

Sure, the place is a little scrambled. Personally, I love that. I'm one of those people who gets stressed when I go into a home or restaurant and everything is pristine and flawless. Hate it. So, for me, boxes on the floor and vintage beer decor totally work. Keep it real, Mike.

All in all, best beer spot I've ever visited. Holds a special place in my heart. Great selection, great family that runs it. Mike was a pioneer of the craft beer/bottle shop scene in Charlotte, and for good reasons. Do yourself a favor and stop in if you're in the area. (1,639 characters)

I am a beer distributor from out of state, and found this store with all of its glowing reviews to completely live up to the hype. Mike was incredibly helpful and had tons of cool stuff tucked away. The walk in cooler held tons of local treats and the rest of the store had an excellent balance of old world and new. I look forward to coming back after the fall when they have a growler system installed. Excellent store and just what I was looking for to stock up my cellar! Aged beers available upon request! (510 characters)

Brawley's is the best in Charlotte, because their focus is on quality not quantity (though this is also due to a lack of space). Mike is awesome, he's very keen on quality and expiration dates in consideration to beer style. I spent about an hour browsing, talking with him about beer. He had great recommendations and obviously knew his brews, but never showed any sort of arrogance in his character. His wife was also very nice, and the two were very welcoming. So what if there are unopened cases? They contain the same beers that are on the shelves anyhow. It didn't appear messy or careless as far the beer goes, but the left portion of the building is in pre-construction mode to expand for a small bar with running taps + a small patio outside that he'd hoped would be ready before winter. Be sure to check out the walk in fridge in the back for other goodies. This place is definitely worth the visit. Thanks Mike. (922 characters)

Everytime I visit family in Charlotte, I hit Brawley's. This time I couldn't make it, so I sent the wife on a mission with a list.

Owner Mike wasn't offended by a list, and enthusiastically helped her around the place. Great beer selection, and great people. Going there with the right attitude gets you greeted and treated like family. His reputation reaches all the way down here in Tampa, FL. Was at a bottle share with a handful of BAs a week ago wearing my Brawley's shirt, and multiple people commented. If you are in Charlotte, your doing yourself a disservice not checking this place out.

Picked up some local and stuff that doesn't get down to FL: Uinta, Cascade, Foothills, Highland, Mother Earth, Green Man, Olde Hickory, Moylans, Founders.

Thanks Mike for the goods. Hope you like the bottle I sent your way. (825 characters)

Great local spot. Not fancy. Mike (owner) works everyday but Wed and Sun and will match you with what you want. New to craft? He is an unbelievable resource. All FRESH beer--not the TW experience. Fantastic keg selection. Hard to find Belgians. Fresh Sculpin by the register--doesn't last long.

Takes care of the regulars with the super limited stuff but, hey, why not? Become a regular and he shares the love. He is worth the extra $.50 a sixer on service alone but quality can't be beaten. Have NEVER had a bad recommendation.

Soon to expand with a tasting room.

Well, an interesting building from the outside. Inside the atmosphere is more like a record store than a bottle shop. Mixed matched decor all over, a variety of music bumping, different, in a good way. The selection is decent but not great, some singles, mostly 6 packs. Service is friendly and knowledgeable about beer. Their is also a clearence rack with half price beers. I was also given a free copy of beer advocate magazine. Oh hell yeah.Overall a pleasant spot worth checking out. (487 characters)

My first visit to the store this past week. Wow on many levels. Beer all over the floor in boxes made me feel right at home. Many many beers I can't find in my part of the world and all of them as fresh as they can possibly be. Mike and his mom were both there and as friendly and helpful to an-out-of-towner as they could possibly be. Prices were a bit higher than I've seen in other stores, but worth every penny. I will make a point of visiting whenever I am in the area. (474 characters)

This is not a world class beer store, no matter what the homers say.
This store is very unorganized with open cases all over the place, the atmosphere is lacking. It loses points with me for not giving a damn about presentation.
The selection is nothing to write home about, but the prices are fair.
Brawley's is friendly and they stock some nice glassware, but with Salud, Good Bottle, Common Market, and Davidson Beverage Co., it's hard to find a reason to recommend this spot above the others in Charlotte, especially considering they have no taps. (552 characters)

A true gem. Step in and you'll find a bit of everything from the freshest IPAs/doubles to Belgians to all kinds of really hard to find stuff you may have never heard of. The boxes are piled high because he has usually just landed a stash of something not likely to be around long. FRESH!! 10 day old Sculpin??? One week old Palate Wrecker. If you haven't had it you are missing out.

The best part of the experience is the owner Mike and when he is not there, you usually find his mom or someone who else who knows beer. Mike works hard to find you something you like. Keg beer selection is great. Don't wake up the baby.

Maybe .50 or a $ higher on some stuff but he won't sell old beer. Best customer service in town. Skip the Total Wine big box /maybe old beer experience. There is a reason Mike kicks of Craft Beer Week in Charlotte.

Overall--great service and value. (872 characters)
