A - Served a clear red with just a touch of orange mixed in and a thin finger of frothy slightly off-white head. Head fades slowly with some good lace.

S - Aroma is a mix of rich sweet caramel malts with a touch of earthy hops coming through.

T - Starts off some rich sweet caramel malt with a bit of a syrupy taste. Through the middle a bit of earthy hop comes through with some more caramel malt. The finish is a mix of rich caramel malt sweetness with some light bitterness.

M - Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a lightly syrupy feeling and a sweet and lightly warming finish.

D - Very drinkable. Fairly rich and sweet, but still well balanced and not overbearing.

Scotch/Scottish ales are my favorite style, or else they are seconded to cream stouts. So I'll try to rate it qua a scotch ale.
A: Transparent orange/light copper. Little head when served.
S: Smells of sweet caramelized malts.
T: Tastes similar to the smell, with the addition of a bit of a coffee kick at the end, or some sort of similar bitterness.
M: Good, smooth, silky mouthfeel with an aftertaste that quickly but cleanly dissipates.
D: Have had a number of these. A great-tasting and complex beer, but still easy to drink a couple.

Not bad. Not the truest Scotch ale I've had. On tap at Oak Barrel Wine Craft in Berkeley.

A- Deep copper, some golden hues with a nice full finger of creamy, thick, foamy tan head. Minimal residual lace.

S- Some prominent but tame hop notes of grapefruit, cedar, and wildflowers. A definite malty caramel character, and some subtle fruity esters (currant/cherry/banana) that all blend well into the background and don't steal the show. The main nose is dense caramelized malts.

T- Not as pleasing as the nose, but still tasty, this plays out more like an amber pale than a scotch, but has characters of both. Theres a biscuity quality to the caramely malts, and the hops stand out stronger in the taste. THe fruits in the nose are non-existent in the taste. All in all, kind of like a cleaner, subdued Scotch ale.

M- Not much of an alcohol bite, or much of an acidity. Nice carbonation, but not much bite from it. Not very invigorating or exciting on the tongue.

D- I could, and will, definitely drink more of this, just not true to style.
