Stopped in today for lunch, it had been years since my last visit...

Nice spot that is fairly easy to visit, parking is hit and miss, but we got lucky. Open inside, lots of old beer stuff, and a nice big roof seating area. Only downer? The shuffleboard is gone! They lose a 1/2 point for that...

Qualitiy is quite good. Even better than I remember. Tasted my brothers hoppy brown ale, it was outstanding. As were the IPA and 2xIPA I tried.

Service was very good. The girl that helped us was quite fast, and volunteered to get us free tastes without us even asking.

Selection was solid. I think they had 10 beers and 3 ciders.

Food was filling and pretty standard brewpub food.

All in all, a great place in the East Bay, well worth checking out. I just wish they still had the shuffleboard...

As a beer drinker, this is my favorite place to visit when in Berkeley. Their beers are excellent. Their prices are great. My only complaint is there is never enough room at the bar, so get there early. Their corn beef sandwiches are 'to die for'. I have never had a better sandwich or a bigger sandwich, than those sold here. My son, a Berkeley student, just rented a house around the block so I am looking forward to many visits with him and the Triple Rock.

After reading Erbayd post...I remembered that IPAX was the way to go. Also the bartenders were great....always offering a tasting before a new selection.

An amazing brewery and an awesome place to hang out! In my opinion it's the best place to grab a beer in Berkeley (though Jupiter is a close 2nd). If you like hops you'll love it here, and I highly recommend IPAX as a go-to beer. It's definitely a great example of a West Coast IPA. Pretty frequently they'll brew a special IPA (Greenhorn, Rye Smile, etc.) and those are always really great. They do a great job of offering seasonal specialty beers, and the Reindeer Ale and Keyser Soze Imperial Stout are super tasty and really strong.

Great food to accompany the great beer, and the whole bar has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere to it. If you don't like crowds, don't go on Thursdays as it can get really hectic. However Triple Rock on a Thursday night is an essential experience for anyone in Berkeley. This place is awesome!!

Old stomping ground of mine from my university days.

Headed in for Friday lunch last week. Had a taster flight of beers, all pretty decent (porter, pale ale, IPA, and strong saison). The food there is always pretty good too.

Since the pints are a little pricey here, I would definitely suggest getting a bunch of 5oz samplers.
It's a great way to go. On a sunny day go upstairs and enjoy your beer outside on the patio!
And Thursdays are monkeyhead day. Drink two if you dare...

I stopped in at Triple Rock during a work related trip to San Francisco in May 2013.

A: Atmosphere is typical bar chatter, not overly crowded on a Tuesday at 6pm. One thing I did overhear was more conversation about the beer and brewing of beer rather than the game(s) that was on the two tv's this bar had.

Q: Quality was above average. None of the beers were over the top must have beers, but good none the less.

S: Service was fantastic. The bartender knew his beer and was full of recommendations, as well as always being on top of filling my glass or getting me a food order.

S: As mentioned the selection was decent. 10 or so Triple Rock beers on tap, a wide variety throughout the spectrum. (A few guest ciders as well) Sadly they were out of IPAX, as it wasn't pouring/looking correctly and decided NOT to continue pouring it. (No ding here, glad they went that route)

F: Food was decent. Typical bar food but just slightly higher. I had the Turkey, Avocado, Swiss and it was delicious.

V: Value was entirely reasonable. $6/pint and ~$8/meal.

O: Overall, it was well worth the trip. Nothing outstanding, but good beer and good food. You can't visit the Bay Area and NOT go here. If you're anywhere near the BART, it's a simple 2 block walk. (I rode the bart from Downtown San Francisco Montgomery Street Station)

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place. Down the street from Jupiter. Shattuck to whatever this is on. So you're downtown Berkeley, one of the cooler concrete jungles IMHO, and that's coming from a staunch conservative.

Tons of wood when you walk in, good size wood bar, big mirror, excellent taps, excellent house brews. Usuals, some seasonals, a few exceptional rarities. Small area upstairs, I like that they don't let people smoke up there even though its 'outdoors'. Cramped areas and smoking are eh, not the coolest thing in public. But I don't even know if the general public is allowed up there, because come to think of it, the only time I've been up there was during Sour Sunday, so who knows. Its cool, so it'd be ashame if they don't utilize it. But anyways, back to inside, its roomy, some old breweriana around the place.

The food smelled good, but I can't recall what I've had there, so there ya go. Is this place affiliated with Jupiter? It seems to be, both cool places, I recommend checking out both since they're right by each other, and in a nice part of downtown Berkeley as well.

Triple Rock has a selection of easily 10+ beers of varied styles all brewed on site at Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley. The beers range from 4-6 dollars and mostly all come in a pint glass. For an experienced beer drinker, the beers here aren't going to blow you away, however, they are highly drinkable and decently priced. From the dozens of times I've been to Triple Rock, I would summarize my experiences by saying that you get decent microbrew beer that comes with a relaxed and intellectual atmosphere.

The food is moderately priced and can be described as above average bar food. I'd recommend eating at Triple Rock if you don't feel like walking around Berkeley to find something better.

One word of warning: Thursday nights is the "Monkeys Head" special and the place gets extremely packed with college kids trying to get hammered.

Visited here in July 2011. First of all really like the old-timey neon sign out front and considering this is one of the oldest brewpubs around it's appropriate. Taps are almost all in-house brews but lots of interesting styles. Brewer seems to be interested in experimenting and I indulged in a sampler flight of six which were all good or great. Good vibe with college types and other Berkeley locals making up the crowd. Fun place to watch a Giants game but beer rather than sports is the main focus. Server very knowledgeable and attentive.

One of the oldest brewpubs in the nation. Triple Rock has a nice vibe with assorted tables, a smalli-ish bar and a great outdoor patio on the roof. The patio is a hidden gem. Lots of wood on the walls, floor, bar, etc. Somewhat of an older building.

The beer is generally very good. IPAX is pretty much always on, a great IPA. Their standard rotation of house beers is solid, very well made. One thing that stands out about Triple Rock is that they are always making new beers. I've had over 60 of their beers over the years and I'm sure there are a number that I've never tried. They do a great job with their hoppier offerings and have been doing a single hop series over the past year that has been nice to try. They have also been barrel aging various beers at the Drake's facility over the last year or so and those are generally very good and a treat to try.

They really do change it up a lot with regards to new brews on tap. Kudos to Rodger Davis for this.

Triple Rock also puts on some pretty good yearly events, such as their Firkin Festival in April and their sour and barrel aged event in February

The food was good. One thing that is nice about Triple Rock is that they have multiple options for vegans. The vegetarian chili is usually pretty good but the recipe is always for changing for this item.

Service is good. Generally pretty prompt and the bartenders know their beer.

Definitely stop at Triple Rock if you are in Berkeley or the east bay. Just two blocks from the downtown Berkeley BART station.
