Special thanks to Truh for the well traveled brew...
Beautiful, bright cherry copper color with a full inch of bright white head...fluffy, but carbonated.
Very nice aromas...dried fruit, yeast, some carbo and just a touch of heat.
Taste is fantastic...dry up front with a hefty fruit flavor, mainly cherries and oranges. The yeast flavor is one of the best qualities here.
Finishes a little sweet, but the slightly bittering hops help to add balance and dry things out before the sugar gets to be too much. The alcohol is well hidden in the flavor...still you know it is there and best be careful, as this is no session beer. Would kill to try this one on tap in Amsterdam...could get real friendly with the locals after a couple of these.
Mouthfeel is full bodied with plenty of carbonation and the sweetness does not find a way to disappoint the texture.
A fine offering in the style...so fortunate to get the chance to enjoy this one.

Poured from a 33cl bottle into a dogfish head tulip glass.
Look is a beautiful ruby amber with a thin white head.
Aroma is fruity and Belgian I guess that is the influence from the Netherlands neighbor. Sweet candy malt at the end.
Doesn't taste like a traditional English or American barley wine, definitely a continental take, but very good.

The bottle says mary, with "Barley Wine". The mistmatch in the style here, but I score under Mary for now. Alcohol 9.6% matches.
Looks: Tanned, opaque, with a thin head
Smell: yeasty, soft wheatiness, strawberry in yogurt
Taste: Belgian yeast spice, cloves, some banana, plum, caramel malt, earth hops. All of these leans towards fruitiness, say strawberry
Feel: it feels heavy with caramel malt, but it's not too cloying.
Overall: this does not seem to fit Barleywine, but triple as suggested here. It's a decent tripel.

Loose but rock solid tawny honeycomb froth over hazy orange body.
Slight citrus, herb, and sour nose - is this turned?
Honey and pear, some tartness, and Seville orange and resin hops. Less sourness and more bitterness as it warms.
Tangerine skin end and sharp finish.
Lt-med, slight oil, dry.
At first I thought this might be infected, with a notable but not unpleasant tartness. But then it opened nicely with progressively more citrus and a powdery bitterness until by the end it was nearly drinking like a DIPA. It's too lightweight for a barleywine, like the label says. And it's sure not a tripel at all, like this and other sources claim. Plus there's orange and coriander, says the label?! No sign of those.
Strange fish, altogether.

Pours a smaller fizzy bubbly head covering, fades semi slowly though somehow, light lacing, very hazy carrot amber orange color.
Nose is very Belgian like, amber malts, light tripel like spices with a touch of coriander like, plenty of esters and a little phenols, with a bit of booze as well, plenty of sweet candy like malts with a little caramel toffee like, touch of apple and pear, and very light chewy spicy hops.
Taste starts with more Belgian malts and yeast additions again, a big sweet malty tripel. Candy amber malts, a little toasty malt with some caramel and candy flavors, and a Belgian malt character. Then tripel spices, a little coriander and with faint orange peel like. Booze kicks in with some booze flavors and esters, light fruity apple pear like flavors, and light phenols as well, and a light booze taste besides the warmth. There are also some light spicy chewy hops, a little earthy as well with some mild to fair bitterness. Finish adds more spicy earthy chewy hops, fair bitterness, a little sweet candy malt flavor and fairly sweet but drier, more esters and plenty of booze warmth, and more tripel spices.
Mouth is med to a bit fuller bodied, lighter but decent carb, with some warming booze.
Overall interesting, like a nice Belgian tripel with a bit of sweet candy malt barleywine like flavors added, decent overall and fairly tasty, but I would hardly call it a Barleywine like the label says.
