Had on tap. Waaaay to bright for a tripel. Has malt is cracker like instead of dark, and the spices taste like they were roasted in lemon zest. Some supporting pepper, clementine, and hops help the complexion out. Now this still is a good beer, but not my preferred type of tripel.

Totaal weinig variatie. Alle bieren lijken teveel op elkaar. Zou het niet aanbevelen als biercafé. Uitzondering de IPA en het rookbier

I visited Amsterdam on 30SEP14. After a couple at In de Wildeman, I made my way to the De Prael Proeflokaal to try some fresh offerings... Led off with a 0.33l chalice of Willeke on draft for €3.50.

The glass was filled with a bright golden liquid. It was a touch cloudy, topped by a fine, thin white head. The foam was just a miniscule layer covering the bier, yet it still left A-1 lacing. Aroma was restrained, with crackery notes, light spiciness and some fruit. It was medium-bodied, and fairly smooth, with only light prickle.

Flavor was crackery and bready, with subtle sweetness. Had some pear and green apple present, with, again, some yeasty spiciness. Had some earthy hoppiness, and the finish was dry with some bitterness. Solid, though not earth-shattering. Prosit!!

Pours a decent fizzy almost 1 finger head that fades semi quickly at first but then slows to a med pace, over hazy wheat orange colored beer.

Nose brings immediate coriander, and now that I think about it I think I remember they mentioned brewing it with coriander. Then light tripel like spices, floral spices, juicy Belgian malts and wheat, light orange zest, actually fresh squeezed orange juice like.

Taste starts with malts, light Belgian blond malts, and wheat flavors as well with hints of banana like fruit and tripel like spices. Warming booze cuts through everything like a 9-10% abv beer, even gets tingly. Then more fruit, mostly esters this time, light green apple and pear, light Belgian spices and some coriander but not a lot, a bit of orange zest as well as plenty of fresh squeezed cheap orange juice. Bitterness in the middle mostly orange rind bitterness though, and a bit of an earthy chewy hop character. Finish is dry with long bitterness, orange zest, a big booze feel, bitterness, chewy hops, orange zest and some spices all lingering. Quite complex actually but quite boozy too.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, some carb, lots of warming booze.

Overall decent, interesting characters, fits the style for tripel and I like the coriander plenty nose and some flavor but not overpowering, nice orange juice and citrus peel, plenty of spices as many tripels have, and interesting bitterness from the orange peel and hops. Booze is way too much though for only being 7.5%. Still an interesting Belgian style beer for being from a small brewery in Amsterdam.

Now I'm going Belgian style with this Dutch brewery. On tap at De Prael taphouse, on to the beer:

A creamy, long lasting head is a theme for this beer. Below it is a golden colored liquid waiting to infect me. A bit of sweet, a bit of fruit, the aroma features sweet tangerine coated in a mild dusting of sugar. It's a fun tripel, a fruity tripel, one that is like sucking on a sweetn tangerine, surrounding by vague tropical fruits. One dimension really, but it's a good flavor. It's medium bodied with the 7.5% ABV tough to find. This is a likeable tripel that won't weigh you down.

Bottle at De Blauwe Hollander, Amsterdam, Netherlands

A: The beer is slightly hazy golden yellow in color. It poured with a thin white head that quickly died down, leaving lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of fruit and hints of yeast are present in the nose.
T: flavors of fruit-bananas seem to stand out in particular-are present in the taste along with a little sweetness. Notes of coriander are also noticeable towards the finish.
M: It feels a little more than medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is rather easy to drink because the alcohol is well hidden from the taste. The only thing that will slow you down is the fuller mouthfeel.

A yellow, orange beer with a settling head. Some haze from the yeast.

Smell is fruity with hints of apricot and marmelade. Also some general English fruitiness and a light herbal and earthy hoppiness.

The taste has a full malty body with notes of wheat. There is a grainy and bready taste, backed up by a medium bitterness and a nice hoppy taste. The yeast character is clean, but has a slight fruity taste, which reminds of apricots and marmelade. The alcohol is nicely hidden and drinkability is fine.

A - Pours a cloudy apricot colour with a thin white head and squiggly lengths of lacing.

S - Tripel aroma, yeast and bread dough, some spice.

T - Yeasty on the tongue, dried apricot and pear, some citrus and mild spice.

M - Quite watery in the body, with low to moderate carbonation.

O - A nicely sessionable tripel but disappointed it wasn't fuller and heavier. Needs some punch.
