What a lively beer at the pour. Light Mahogany in color with a frothy cream-colored head, which lasts for the majority of the beer leaving dense carbonation bubbles and a friendly lacing in its wake.

Malt and yeast notes dominate with dark fruit. Deeper aromas include straw and perhaps oats.

Deep, sweet fruit is more relevant in the flavor, perhaps fig or raisin. Dark malt and yeast are in the background as well as something lightly woody. This flavor is sweetly robust and full of character.

Medium to light carbonation on the palate with a medium to heavy body. The dryness and diverse flavor characteristics are a great combination.

This beer is darn good and improves as it warms to allow flavors to be released.

330ml served in a Leffe chalice.

A: Pours a clear dark amber color forming a medium thin bubbled beige head. Great retention and lots of soapy and molasses lacings formed and left in the glass

S: Sweet and fruity. Strong notes of grapes, raisins, toffee, caramel malts, roasted malts and candy sugar. Light flowery hops. Belgian-style bready and earthy yeasts. A bit boozy and a bit bubblegum in the very end. Strong Belgian character, as expected

T: Sweet upfront. Very malty and fruity in the mouth too. Strong notes of grapes, raisins, toffee, caramel malts, roasted malts, candy sugar, oak. Some spices and some notes of bubblegum too. Light bitterness in the end. Hops are a bit citrus. Bready and biscuity yeasts profile. Again, quite Belgian

M: Heavy and molasses body. Medium carbonation. Warming beer. Candy bittersweet aftertaste

O: Good drinkability. Classic Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Recommended

From a 330 ml bottle into a chalice. Reviewed from notes dated May 25, 2013.

A-The brew is slightly cloudy with a deep amber/tawny color. The head is quite thin and greyish tan in color. There is little retention or lacing. Mundane.

S-The smell is full of brown sugar, caramel, and syrup. There is just a bit of nut and baking spice. It is quite sweet, but strangely pleasing.

T-The taste follows the smell with sweet, syrupy flavors being pretty much the only show in town. Like the smell, it is one-dimensional, but strangely tasty.

M-The feel is very soft with ultra-fine carbonation that gives a creamy texture.

O-This is a one-hit wonder of a beer, but I found it strangely good. It is very sugary, and would make a nice dessert brew, but compared against the best dark ales, it is not as complex or intriguing as it could be.
