11.2 oz. bottle into a flute glass...

A: Copperish amber in color with a cream colored bubbly head that falls away quickly. Medium lacing and a decent amount of retention.

S: A bread-like yeastiness with a hint of cola, licorice, and cherries.

T: A sweet malty beer with notes of dark fruit, raisins, and cherries. A tart dry finish.

M: Thin to slightly medium body with a moderate amount of carbonation.

D: Easy to drink... low ABV. Nothing really exciting about this beer to speak of. Solid Belgian Dark Ale.

330ml served in a Leffe chalice.

A: Pours a clear dark amber color forming a medium thin bubbled beige head. Great retention and lots of soapy and molasses lacings formed and left in the glass

S: Sweet and fruity. Strong notes of grapes, raisins, toffee, caramel malts, roasted malts and candy sugar. Light flowery hops. Belgian-style bready and earthy yeasts. A bit boozy and a bit bubblegum in the very end. Strong Belgian character, as expected

T: Sweet upfront. Very malty and fruity in the mouth too. Strong notes of grapes, raisins, toffee, caramel malts, roasted malts, candy sugar, oak. Some spices and some notes of bubblegum too. Light bitterness in the end. Hops are a bit citrus. Bready and biscuity yeasts profile. Again, quite Belgian

M: Heavy and molasses body. Medium carbonation. Warming beer. Candy bittersweet aftertaste

O: Good drinkability. Classic Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Recommended

From a 330 ml bottle into a chalice. Reviewed from notes dated May 25, 2013.

A-The brew is slightly cloudy with a deep amber/tawny color. The head is quite thin and greyish tan in color. There is little retention or lacing. Mundane.

S-The smell is full of brown sugar, caramel, and syrup. There is just a bit of nut and baking spice. It is quite sweet, but strangely pleasing.

T-The taste follows the smell with sweet, syrupy flavors being pretty much the only show in town. Like the smell, it is one-dimensional, but strangely tasty.

M-The feel is very soft with ultra-fine carbonation that gives a creamy texture.

O-This is a one-hit wonder of a beer, but I found it strangely good. It is very sugary, and would make a nice dessert brew, but compared against the best dark ales, it is not as complex or intriguing as it could be.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a hazy, dark caramel amber with a fine, thin off-white head with decent retention and lacing. Classic Belgian dark aroma of caramel malt, dark fruit, Belgian yeast and hints of light apple juice. Flavor starts with somewhat subdued caramel malt, apple and dark stone fruit, and Belgian yeast, then the flavor quickly falls off leaving a slight metallic bitterness. A very odd flavor profile. Medium bodied. The initial flavor is light, but sweet and flavorful, but the finish is abrupt and off-putting. Puzzling.

It has a faint metallic sourness in the nose, behind sweet upfront molasses malts.

Tastes much sweeter than the aroma gave away, with an almost overwhelming, but welcome, brown sugar sweetness. Very malty with a hint of bubbly effervescence to the molasses backbone.

It feels quite malty on the tongue too, good but a little off putting for how sweet it is.

Overall a good, hearty and warming paters beer. Them monks got class
