I poured this beer into an Orval chalice and oddly enough, it looked like I was actually pouring Orval! Poperings Hommel looks absolutely delicious, a cloudy dark straw colour and medium head density so characteristic of Belgian IPAs. An almost perfect example.
I've tried many beers in my life, and this is one of the very few that deserves a 5.0 for smell. The complexity is staggering, with citrus and floral notes, spice galore and breads that make my mouth water. Wow.
I can't believe how impressive this beer is. The taste picks up exactly where the smell leaves off and none of the smell components are left out. I can taste the citrus and floral notes from the particular variety of hops they use, whatever that may be. There's loads of spice in there too, making for what may be one of the most interesting beers I've had the pleasure of drinking.
As if it couldn't get any better, Poperings Hommel feels like silk in your mouth, and glides down your throat with unnatural ease. Tiny bubbles of carbonation tease your tastebuds the whole time.
Overall, this beer definitely makes my top ten list. Unbelievable. I will buy this EVERY time I see it.

Picked this up a few weeks back at Top Hops in New York, having never tried this before. I was expecting this to be a "benchmark" beer that would serve as an example as to what other Belgian IPA's should aspire to and for the most part this fit that bill. The flavor was a little too complex for me but the drinkability was there and I was also hard-pressed to remember when something this light in hue had a pour that was this memorable!
The pour to this was astounding as the fluffy head, dark golden hue, cloudy appearance, and bubbles on the *side* of my pint glass all combined for an extremely pleasing first impression. The lacing was up to snuff as well, as lots of soapy layers made themselves felt once I worked my way through this. Not a strong aroma to this beer but there was some yeast and apple to be found in the nose. Both of those were present in the taste, along with the grassy hops, pear, candied sugar and booze underneath everything else.
