L- Quite dark russet (red/brown). Poured with mild haze and strikingly quick to form 5Cm pale-tan head. The latter notable as the bottle had rested weeks and been chilled + poured gently. Much sludge left in bottle too.
S- It's light for me, just some mild woody notes. [perhaps it opens up more when more of the chill has lifted].
T- Quite unexpected for a dubbel, I still sense the woody aspect here, decent malts, and a moderate hoppy note into the finish but I was expecting several more identifiable notes it being a Belgian 7.5% dubbel. Now and again I wonder if I'm getting a fruit note, a fleeting mildy sour note like a mild sour cherry?
F- At 7.5% I'd expected something 'meatier'/richer, this is dryer than allows for that. I'll also say it hides it's ABV well.
O- There isn't enough going on with this beer for me to like it much. For some reason it seems very different from the 'Belgian Dubbel' style, and I've had a few dozen examples. Since I paid a premium for this as niche-beer import into the UK, I won't be paying that premium to buy it again.
ps. New lable. Now it's a group of 4 monks sat around a table toasting each other with fresh glasses of beer.

Light brown color with a thick head with decent retention.
Aroma with notes of creamy chocolate, raisins, caramel and some cocoa.
Flavor with notes of caramel, dark chocolate, black fruits, nutmeg, sprinkles of cocoa, lots of brown sugar and red grapes. Dry aftertaste with a residual taste of the combination above.
Medium that feels close to full body with excessive carbonation. Alcohol of 7.5% has a flavoring note.
Average sweet Dubbel with predominant chocolatey and fruity notes. Too sweet and didn’t like the carbonation explosion.

Tap
Pours a cloudy reddish brown, yellowish head dissipates slowly.
Smells of brett, cherries, apple and caramel.
Tart cherry and apple over caramel malt with some oak and bretty yeast.
Full body with light carbonation on the tongue.
Really nice bright dubbel, very enjoyable and worth trying.

330ml bottle. Those monks just seem to still be carrying on and on, and are well appropriate for the current festive season.
This beer pours a murky dark red brick amber hue, with three fingers of fizzy, loosely foamy, and mostly bubbly ecru head, which leaves a bit of rare speckled lace around the glass as it quickly abates.
It smells of bready caramel malt, yeast, muddled dark fruits akin to plum, prune, and faint figs, and earthy, musty hops. The taste is more bready caramel malt, a touch of dry toffee, mixed black fruit, singed brown sugar, a bit of musty red wine, and earthy, dead leafy hops.
The carbonation is a bit frizzante, but settles to a dull hum soon enough, the body an adequate medium weight, and a bit tacky in its smoothness, with a touch of nascent creaminess. It finishes on the sweet side, the malt, fruitiness, and booze all mixing and mingling amicably.
An agreeable enough dubbel, perhaps not as complex as their compadres around the region, but serviceable on this cold winter day. And were that I could have a round with those salubrious gents on the label.
