12.7 oz bottle into a wine glass.

Appearance: Pours a darker pink color. The head is a finger high, and lavender in shade. Retention is...well, it's horrible. There's no lacing either. Like many sour ales, it has the aesthetic charm of a wart. (2)

Smell: This just hits all the right notes of a good kriek - it's loaded with earthen funk notes, it's loaded with tart cherries, and it's also loaded with oaky qualities. As it evolves, I'm even picking up some vanilla and coconut (!) notes. There's also a shitload of tartness concealed by the oak/funk. Yeah, this smells great, plain and simple. (4.25)

Taste: Whoa momma, this one is tart. For a brief moment, I pick up the nuanced and delicate barrel flavors at first...and then, BOOM! Fruity, acetic tartness explodes on the midtaste. It's like someone mixed Black Cherry Warheads with Jolly Ranchers, and I freaking love it. More cherry flavors build up on the finish. This one is absolutely balls-out next to other krieks/sour ales - while it doesn't have the delicacy or balance of other sours, it makes up for it by being extremely enjoyable regardless (it helps that some of the supplementary notes still come through the intense tartness). (4.25)

Mouthfeel: Dry, dry, dry, and dry. This one bites the palate with oak barrel and sourness without letting go. Because it's so tannic as well, it's not very easy to drink. Still, I don't really care. (3.75)

Overall: Objectively, I have to concede - it's not as balanced as the best sour ales. Subjectively, I also have to concede that I still love the hell out of it. The fact that it still manages to be so extreme in its tartness while revealing a nice complexity is just gravy. Did I mention it's much easier to find than anything from Cantillon/3F? Because it is. Bottle shared with a friend. Pours cherry red with white head. Aroma of sour cherries and some funk. Taste of cherry, funk and sour berries. Very, very tart and sour. Delicious.
